Hi Tina As you can see I am researching both Smith and Barraclough, but only for the West Bradford / Wibsey area. As yet I haven't come across a James Smith who might be Abigail's father, but I do have an Abigail Smith who married a James Staveley in 1785 at Bradford Parish Church. The name Abigail was uncommon in Bradford at that time, in fact I think she is the only one I have come across. As uncommon names do tend to pass down the generations, it may be that this Abigail and yours are related. The west Riding of Yorkshire will have been well populated with James Smith's, although not so with Ann Barraclough's. Have you tried searching the IGI at http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchigi.asp Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Jeff Sutcliffe Researching Barraclough, Bateman, Bates, Booth, Broadbent, Collins, Hanson, Harwood, Holmes, Oliver, Pollard, Smith, Sugden, Sutcliffe, Walker, and Wilkinson all of the Bradford area.
Hello listers, In reading Victoria (Australia) state school histories, noticed that a Amy E. Barrowclough was the first head teacher in Monea West state school in 1900. Sorry, but no other details. Maybe she is in somebody's Australian family. Cheers Peter [email protected]
Hi List, Just forwarding this along. Tina's e-mail is [email protected] Please send a copy to her, as well as replying to the list. Hi Linda, Looking for information on marriage between Ann Baraclough and James Smith in West Riding,Yorkshire late 1700's. I believe they are the parents of my ggggrandmother, Abigail Smith who married William Cockroft in 1811. Any info would be appreciated. Will share what I have if you're interested. Thanks very much. Look forward to hearing from you... Best, Tina Coleman/Pennsylvania/USA

Hi Adrian, Thanks for the message and spelling lesson :-)) Obviously spelling was not one of my strong points at school :-)) It is always nice to meet new Barraclough researchers. Have you been able to find John and Harriet Barraclough in the 1881 Census ? do you know if they were married by 1881 ? I know off at least one other Barraclough subscriber to the group who is also researching in the Halifax area, so I will check his information and see if there might be a connection. You never know your luck :-)) It would take more than work commitments for me to stop posting to the group or give up my Barraclough Surname Study, but everyone will notice a slow down by me, whilst I am still working part time. When I can give that up, I will return to my steady pace. -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR-Lightcliffe BATEMAN-Wibsey,Wike POLLARD-Wibsey Adrian Teerlink wrote: > Hi Kim, > > You must be super busy with all that you have going. Hi Kim, You must be super busy with all that you have going. I think the word you want is glutton, versus gluten which is like bread dough. Gluttony was one of the 'seven deadly sins' named in the Greek play Everyman. Anyway my Barraclough connection is my mother who was born a Barraclough. Her father was Harold Fawbert Barraclough, son of John Barraclough and Harriet Ann Fawbert. Harold grew up in Halifax, England and came to the USA when he was 20, in 1908. Success in your new business and keep posting messages to the Barraclough list as time allows. I've saved them all and will soon be researching them as I attempt to tie in.
