    1. [BARRACLOUGH] Barraclough's in articles from the Bradford Observer
    2. Kim Pasquill
    3. Hi Everyone, These 2 articles were sent to me by Bohdan. The first article will show you should never fall asleep whilst intoxicated :-)) The second article is about a boy whilst out playing on the ice with his mates, comes to a very sad end. Bradford Observer 1863 Page 5 Column 3 ROBBERTY AT A PUBLIC HOUSE. - On Friday, at the Borough Court (before Wm. Dewhist, Esq. and Mr. Alderman Wright), two young women, named Mary Allen and Catherine Mortimer, and a young man, named Martin Coldwell, were charged, the two former with stealing a pocket book containing five or six sovereigns and a bill of exchange for 95 pounds, and a silk handkerchief, the property of Mr. W. BARRACLOUGH, butcher, of Wibsey: and the male prisoner with feloniously receiving some of the property. Mr. Hutchinson appeared for the prosecution. On Wednesday evening, the prosecutor went to the Oddfellows' Hall, in Thornton Road. He had something to drink, and met with the female prisoners, whom he treated with a few glasses of ale. He subsequently fell asleep, and when he awoke, in an hour and a half after, he found that he had been robbed of the pocket book, containing a bill of exchange for 95 pounds and a silk handkerchief. He gave information of the robbery at the police station, and described the prisoners. P.C. Burnet found the prisoners Mortimer and Coldwell at a common lodging-house in Longlands Street, and the other, Allen, at another. He found the silk-handkerchief and a sovereign, one shilling, and eightpence halfpenny upon the male prisoner. He also observed the male prisoner go upstairs, and throw some money from him. Mortimer was subsequently asked to stand up, and money dropped from her clothes. Mortimer declined to say where she had got the money, and the male prisoner said he had worked for it. The two female prisoners had taken the bill of exchange to Mrs. Sarah Haigh, of the Old George and Dragon beerhouse, in Westgate, and requested her to take care of it till next day. The prisoners were committed for trial at the sessions. Bradford Observer 1870 January 5th, Wednesday Page 3 Column 3 THE ICE-ACCIDENT AT LOW MOOR. - Yesterday morning an inquest was held by Mr. Barstow, deputy-coroner for the Halifax district, at the New Inn, Hill-top, Low Moor, on the body of SIDNEY BARRACLOUGH, seven years of age, who as reported in the Observer of Monday, was drowned in the Hill-top reservoir on Saturday last. ABRAHAM BARRACLOUGH grocer and carter of Low Moor, father of the deceased, was the first witness called. He stated that about two o'clock on Saturday afternoon he was standing near his own house, which is not far from the reservoir, when a woman informed him that a lad was drowning in the reservoir. Not knowning at that time who it was, he hastened to the spot, and found that it was his own son who was in the water, the ice having given way. At that time the deceased was struggling in the surface of the water, about sixty yards from the bank, and was screaming for his father. Witness got a rope round his waist, and some men on the bank took hold of it while he went out on the ice to try to rescue the boy. When he had gone about forty yards out the ice broke under him. At that moment his son sank under the water for the third time. Witness found it impossible to proceed and it was with great difficulty that he was drawn to the embankment by the men who held the rope. The son's body was got out at about half-past four that afternnon. - A man named Edward Naylor Baines, who lives at the reservoir house, and has charge of the reservoir substantiated the father's evidence.- It appears that the reservoir is well fenced off, and from the statements of a number of boys who were on or near the ice at the time of the accident, but whom it was not thought necessary to call as witnesses, there seems to be no doubt that deceased and his companions had been sliding, and had come to his death in consequence of venturing further out on the ice than the rest. A verdict to the effect that deceased had been accidentally downed was returned. Thanks heaps Bohdan, -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR-Lightcliffe BATEMAN-Wibsey,Wike POLLARD-Wibsey

    1. [BARRACLOUGH] M.I.'s at Bradford Cathedral
    2. Kim Pasquill
    3. Hi Everyone, Would anyone living in Bradford know if there are any Headstones still standing in the churchyard of Bradford Cathedral ? Or if Mr. Blackburn has recorded any Monumental Inscriptions for the burials that took place at Bradford Cathedral, which was known at the time as Bradford Parish Church. The reason I ask is that I think that some of our Barraclough's were buried there, and due to the lack of information found in the burial entries, I thought I might get some more information from the Monumental Inscriptions. Thanks Kim

    1. [BARRACLOUGH] A Barraclough Line At Last
    2. Steve Everitt
    3. Hi Group, Have some Barraclough info to share at last. Never did get anything from my Aunt. This comes from a website. I was rather surprised to see it as it has rather a lot of my living relatives personal information posted? Anyway, this is what it says and how it relates to me. (Only info I had) Me Doris May Boniface (Mother) Her Brother is Albert William George Boniface (Uncle) who married Beverley Anne Barraclough(Aunt) (On this website) Her Parents: Major Morris Barraclough m Annie Casson Ward 2 Children-Beverley Anne & Robert Morris The Major's Parents: Walter Barraclough m Beatrice Marsden 4 Children-Morris, George Edwin, Alice & Walter Cyril Walter's Parents: Edwin Barraclough (1862-1929) m Lucy Ann Lumb 7 Children-Walter, Elsie, Gertrude, Leonard, Clement, Johnny & Eveline Edwin's Parents: William Barraclough (1768-1853) m Ann Radcliffe Sowerby, Yorkshire 1 Child?-Edwin I would guess that Edwin is the one that came across the pond, because he died in Calgary, Alberta. William died in Yorkshire. Note amongst this info says the following: This line fully researched by Frederick Hunter, Box 4121, Stn. C, Calgary T2T 5M9 Canada Website that I got it from is: http://www.wardjc.com/d0001/g0000137.htm#I5019 Could not determine who posted this info, no e-mail or address? The note above is not the only note citing sources, different parts have different sources. Frederick Hunter is the source of the Barraclough info but no inkling to who the recipient is. If any of the above is familiar to any of the Barraclough crew I would be glad to hear from them of course. If that website owner is known to someone I would like to have the personal parts of my living relatives info removed. Especially the part that makes my young cousin 59 years old, before she sees it<grin>. Look forward to hearing from someone. Regards Steven R. 3. Hi Vija, I have some good news for you. Linda was right, in that NSW was described as being hot :-)) I have checked the New South Wales Federation Series CD and have found the entries you are after. But it appears that William Henry and Mary Henrietta had more children than you thought. Birth Registriation. Surname-Barraclough Given Names- Francis C Index Year 1891 Father-William Mother Henrietta M. Place of Registration - Waverley Registration year 1891 Registration Number 37353 Surname - Barraclough Given Names - William J. Index Year - 1892 Father - William Mother Henrietta M Place of Regisration - Radwick Registration Year - 1892 Registration Number 30322 I have not been able to find a death entry for Francis C. so I presume that he may have returned to England with his family and died there ? I have not been able to find a birth entry for Ada Jane. If you apply for these birth certificates it should give you the following information. Date/ Place of birth/ Sex / Name Parent's names (including mothers maiden name) Father's Occupation Father's age and birthplace Mother's age and birthplace Date/Place of parent's marriage Residence Previous Issue Witnesses to birth The Previous Issue, will tell you how many males and females were born before this child and if any of them were deceased. Unfortunately the NSW birth certificates do not show the names of the previous children, but from telling you the previous children's sex, you will then now if Ada was born before either of these 2 son of if she was born after them. I will find out the cost of the NSW certificates and the address of the Birth's Death and Marriages office for NSW, in fact I think they have a web site on the net, and you might be able to apply over the net for the certificates, but I will find out and send you the information. Vija, to you have a copy of William Henry's birth certificate ? if so can you send the the information from his birth certificates please. I hope the above has been of some help. -- Best Wishes Kim Pasquill Victoria-AUST Email: [email protected] Barraclough Surname Study: http://users.net2000.com.au/~football/index.html ICQ Number: 30110913 Researching: Worldwide - BARRACLOUGH and variant's WRY - TAYLOR-Lightcliffe BATEMAN-Wibsey,Wike POLLARD-Wibsey Linda Barraclough wrote: > Hi Vija, > > Everyone is sending me this one in Australia to ask if I have seen it! :) > > I am happy to try and have a go at finding something, but can you just > confirm for me (and any other Aussies watching on the sidelines) exactly > which Victorian records you have checked.
