Hi Barr's My name is Bev Gray and I am looking for info about Irish BARR's from NY and western PA. My ggrandfather William Barr was born in NY, 1842. f. Joseph Barr born Ireland, c. 1810, m. Sarah _ Barr b. 1817 NY. Wm. married Catherine Ann Peoples of Murrinsville - 18 Nov.1873 - born 1850 f. John Peoples b. Ire. c, 1810, m. Margaret Murrin Peoples b. 1822 PA Murrinsville is in Venango tws, Butler Co. PA .The Butler Co. website has tons of info and maps about all the Murrins but I cannot find anything about Barrs. Wm. was catholic, at least in practice, a democrat in politics and a stonemason by trade, reputedly the builder, not the contractor, of the Butler Co. courthouse stairs. Tho I have found no record, thats what my granny said. These Barrs are buried in.the family plot at Calvary Cem. Butler. Also looking for Katherine Elizabeth Barr b. 1851 PA f. ? Barr b. Ireland m. Margaret Barr b. Ireland c,1825 reputed servant in Titus family household Titusville, also reputed relationship with William Barr. Kate was a protestant in practice and a fine decorative painter and watercolorist. Kate had two sons. Frank James Gray and Charles Gray both born in Bradford c. 1880 - 84, father was James Gray b. 1854 Conneaut OH. Kate d. 22 Dec 1923 IN Sorry for the long sad story which might be a hot scandal* but hope someone on the list has run across one of my deliquent ancestors! *Kate's son Frank & William's daughter Anna ran off to Niagara Falls and were married in 1901, they were supposedly first cousins(?) the families never spoke again and I have never figured out how they could be!
