    3. Fiona Sendall [email protected] Hi, I am new to this list and Scottish research, having concentrated on my English lines. I am looking for connections to William Barr [a joiner] born ca1776, he married Ann STEELE 03.02.1801 and they had the following children :- William 1802, Thomas 1803, William 1805, Mary 1810, Samuel 1812-1889, James 1812, Marion 1814, George 1816, James 1818. Their son Samuel, farmer of Bunn Blackwood Lesmahagow, married Agnes BUNTON ca 1817-1889 the daur of James BUNTON and Agnes *GO*** on 24.01.1836. They had the following children Marion 1837, Anne 1838, Barbara 1842, James 1844, Agnes 1846, Samuel 1848, Mary 1849, John 1852, Helen 1855, Janet 1857, Christina 1858, Janet 1860. Their son John is my great-grandfather, he too was a farmer first at 'Dillar' Lesmahagow and then at East Seaton in Angus. He married Elizabeth McGregor 26.06.1882 and they had five known children all born at Dillar. Mary 1883, Agnes 1885, Samuel ca 1887, Elizabeth 10.10.1887 and James 1889. 3. Fiona, My Scottish ancestors probably arrived in SC around 1700 or perhaps the late 1600s, as they seem well established in and near Indiantown (now Williamsburg County) by early 1700s. James and William were frequent family names. Unfortunately, not being able to firmly establish the name of the first emigrant Barrs in SC, I can't really look to Scotland for a possible ancestor of my particular line. The only thing I might suggest is research at the Scotland General Records Office in Edinburgh. A first cousin of mine not long ago visited the Records Office and was able to trace back our ancestry on the non-Barr side of the family (HUTCHISON) back to 1780. Of course, we had my great grandfather's name and the approximate time he emigrated to Canada, and he could start with that. I would like to hear about any successes you may have in tracing your line of BARRs. Should you encounter a reference to some BARR who left Scotland in the late 1600s or very early 1700s and emigrated to South Carolina, I would certainly be very interested in that!!
