    3. Tom: I noticed your reply through the Barr-L rootsweb. My Barr family goes back to a Thomas Barr in PA. His wife was Janet Hutchinson. I have attached two PDF documents. One covers the Barr's/ Hutchison's the other Boggs/ Hutchinson's. As you can see Thomas Barr and William Boggs were both married to Hutchinson women. Capt. John Boggs son of William and Elizabeth Hutchinson was first married to Jane/Jean Irvin and then married the widow Mary Williamson Barr whose husband was Robert Barr who was killed by Indians in Derry Settlement Westmoreland Co. PA. 2 Apr 1781 (Fort Wallace). Robert was a son of Thomas and Janet Barr. I am assuming this Thomas Barr may have come from Virginia Area probably with many of the people listed on the 1751 PA tax list probably came together from the Virginia Area. In these times the Virginia Area included parts of PA. Capt. John Boggs was also present at locations in VA. Take a look at the documents and references in PA and VA. I really believe there may be a connect here. William Boggs may be the link that will help if you have references to the Boggs family in the Hutchinson material. I have him being born 3 Mar 1738/9 in Londonderry, Ireland. The Boggs, Irwin's, McDowell's, where families that had been "asked?" to remove from Scotland to Northern Ireland. Barr's may also have been in that group. Look forward to hearing from you and what you find in the Hutchinson information. Would love to get copies of that material if you find some connections. James and William were frequent family names. Unfortunately, not being able to firmly establish the name of the first emigrant Barrs in SC, I can't really look to Scotland for a possible ancestor of my particular line. The only thing I might suggest is research at the Scotland General Records Office in Edinburgh. A first cousin of mine not long ago visited the Records Office and was able to trace back our ancestry on the non-Barr side of the family (HUTCHISON) back to 1780. Of course, we had my great grandfather's name and the approximate time he emigrated to Canada, and he could start with that. I would like to hear about any successes you may have in tracing your line of BARRs. Should you encounter a reference to some BARR who left Scotland in the late 1600s or very early 1700s and emigrated to South Carolina, I would certainly be very interested in that!!
