Seeking info about the Bare/Bear/Baer families in Virginia. A neighbor here in Dayton, Indiana, is researching her house, a large two-story brick house. It appears the house was built by David Bare/Bear about 1878. This David Bare first turns up in a note in a local Methodist church time capsule as the brickmason on the building in 1866. Then he appears on a special town census in 1871 (the census was done in preparation for a vote on incorporation). In 1871 he had one person in his household, so apparently he was not married then. Next he appears to be the husband of Sarah E. Baer [yes Baer], who bought the lot in 1878 (yes, Sarah bought it) and he is on a nearby lot in an 1878 map as David Bear [yes Bear]. We can't find him in the 1870 Federal census, but the family is in the 1880 Federal census for Dayton, Indiana, Tippecanoe County: David Bear, 37, VA, brickmason parents b. VA Elisabeth Bear, wife, 30, VA, parents b. VA Maud Bear, dau, 5, IN Then the family disappears from the area, so far as we know now. So it appears we are looking for a David b. 1843 in VA. parents unknown, but also b. VA. David married, about 1875, probably in Indiana. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, Susan
