Rick: I have reviewed my old Barr information and do not see a fit at this time. In fact I do not see the Henry name at all in the older generations. The Barr family is at a road block. I see us going forward though the wife's lines. I believe the older Barr's are probably related back in Ireland and all came over about the same time. Many of the marriages were in Ireland. The key families appear to be the Hutchison's, Boggs, Irvin/Irwin, McKnight, and later the Denny and McClure. Again most have come from Ireland and probably the Londonderry area. If we can locate some of the old marriages (Presbyterian Churches), or passenger lists into Philadelphia or New Castle, (now Delaware, but PA then) and the year is probably around 1720 we may be able to piece this together. I have a web site that seems to point this way:http://www.geocities.com/Athens/2101/barr-toc.html I will also put you on the Barr mail list that includes Mike Barr and Roger Peterson. Here is some information I put together recently from my files. Great to get all your thoughts and information. I did some studying on my Thomas Barr Peters Twp, Franklin Co., PA. A couple of ideas have developed. We need to be aware of the county name changes and be using the right one for the dates of the information. I have found a vast amount of material for some of the wife's maiden names. The tax list of 1751 for Peters Twp has many names of wife's family names and some of the neighbors names which may be clues. It appears there is a very strong Scot Irish connection with the families of Hutchinson, Williamson, Boggs, Irwin, Patton, Porter, Dickey and McKnight. The tradition goes that the Irvin family was driven out of Scotland for religious reasons and sent to Ireland. From Ireland 8 of 10 children came to America in 9 May 1729 on the George and Ann landing in Philadelphia. The McDowell's were with them. James Irvin's wife was a McDowell. I am starting to suspect they were all known to each other in Ireland. The family operated linen mills near Larne County, Antrim, Ireland. They departed from Londonderry, Ireland. Name was changed in America to Irwin/Irvin. Enough to get started on. I am going to send each of you a PDF from Thomas Barr down. Also individual lead documents like wife of Thomas Barr Janet Hutchinson's fathers will mentioning son in laws Robert Barr and Robert Dickey. They mention a Jonis William Dickey. I do have Gedcoms at www.gencircle.com If you need larger files let me know. Just put in Thomas Barr and Janet Hutchinson and you will be able to access the information. You may want to check for Henry and see if other genealogists are working on that side of the tree. Hope that helps. Mike Barr informed me of your website and suggested I contact you. I am researching the Barr family descedent from Henry Barr 1792-1873. The earliest information on Henry comes from Ky where he appears as a landowner at age 20 or 21. No information has been uncovered as to his mother and father brothere orsisters or earlier ancestry. Speculation has it his fathers name may be John. Also thought to have come from PA perhajps around Carlisle or from Lancster or Westmoreland CO. Perhaps somehow related to James Barr of PA who was a member of the PA constitutional convention and judge of Westmoreland Co. Appreciate you letting me know if you might have information or contact me in the future if you come acroos anything. Thanks Rick Barr
