    1. [BARR] from the listowner: soliciting on email lists
    2. Fred
    3. Hi folks, Normally I don't say much on any of my lists, all 21 of them, but I've received allot of private mail as well, concerning the soliciting of private websites on a Rootsweb mail list. Here it is in a nutshell. First of all, it's poor etiquette to advertise without first asking the listowner. Second, Rootsweb gives a very wide birth to the administrators and owners of the lists. They allow us to pretty much run the lists as we see fit and make our own rules, as long as they stay mostly on genealogy and history related subjects. The difference between us listowners and an administrator is that us old-timers bought the space from Rootsweb to set up the lists that we own, so we have more latitude than an administrator. However, the same courtesy should apply to anyone at any time. Ask before you advertise on someone's list! Now as far as the person that started their own website for their family, I let it slide, but now it's becoming a nuisance to me personally! So please ask in the future. If you are allowed to advertise, make sure that all replies are made to you personally, not to the listowner or to the list. Thank you, Fred

    3. Dear Sue I do have a Mary Barr born June l852, daughter of George Barr and his wife Margaret Buchanan. Mary Barr would be one of thirteeen children of George Barr. Do you think that she might be the Mary you are looking for. There is a book in the works about George Barr who was born about l8ll in Paisley, Scotland. All his children however, were born in Medonte Township, Simcoe County. About Mary Barr, I have no information which usually means the person moved away. What do you think. 3. Hi Stacey I will keep you in mind. I have been researching many of my families and that of my husband's too but the Barr family has been just a new one that I have tackled. You would think that since my maternal grandmother's maiden name was Barr that I would have tackled it long ago, but no. Keep in touch. It sounds like it is in Northern Ontario. George Barr was born about l8ll and settled down near Orillia as I said above, in Simcoe County. I just got a picture of my great grandfather's tombstone . 3. I am still aimlessly searching for a Mary Alice Barr born circa 1855 in Ireland. She married George Lessard about 1880 and also had a son George Lessard born 1880. According to Mary's son George, the family at one time had a farm near Midland, Ontario and then at one point moved back to Quebec where her husband was from. For the life of me I can not trace anything on this family. I have obtained a marriage record and death record for George Lessard Jr and spoken with his living daughters, but still nothing turns up. If anyone has heard of this family I'd really love to hear from them. Thank you, Sue Poulin, Canada

    2. I am not sure at all where my Barr is from. Her name was Margaret Barr Wilson, and all I know of her is that she was married to John Wilson from Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. She died at age 29 of stomach cancer in Erie, PA. Of interest to the Canadian Barrs is that John moved to Hamilton, Ontario after she died, somewhere around 1900. He remarried twice, both to women named Emma. I have often wondered if they met in Canada. There is a Barr family and a Margaret Barr of the right age in Bute where John's family moved, but I haven't been able to find a marriage record. Does anyone know of a marriage record for John Wilson and Margaret Barr in Ontario? Dee Schaffer [email protected]
