    3. Does anyone know in what house Katherine BARR (b. about 1820, d/o John BARR 1795-? and Barbara KEEPORTS) married Francis SHROEDER in 1847? The bio for Schroeder says it was home to four generations of Barrs. These Barrs are from the Quarryville-Strasburg area of Lancaster County. -- Susan Y. 1. [BARR] McFADDEN and BARR families of County Down, Ireland, and USA
    2. The obituary presented below is of interest to both the BARR and McFADDEN families of County Down, Ulster, Ireland, and I thought people would be interested in its contents. 3. There's a man in Massachusetts who has done the MA Barrs pretty completely. (Unfortunately he hasn't found my Matilda Barr Johnson, born in Massachusetts, moving to VT and then NY, but otherwise he has much information.) Sorry I cannot remember his name but it's back in my e-mail history no doubt. Perhaps he'll contact you through the Barr list if you put a query out. These Massachusetts Barrs all came earlier, from Scotland, I think, but may be related. I got interested in your posting as I have "Irish" ancestors who probably aren't Irish at all. My Kennedy and Edmonds families who came to New England in the mid 1700s are said to have been in Stirling, Scotland and Antrim, Ireland, with the later births being Antrim, Ireland. I think they're part of the people known as "Ulster Scots." My McLaughlin family who came from Killaleagh, Ireland, came later, like yours, perhaps, in the 1790s and settled in what is today the town of Winfield, Herkimer Co., NY. (It was part of Otsego Co. when they first arrived in central NY.) Friends of mine have Irwin ancestors from Antrim, coming in the 1700s. I've become increasingly interested in the Scottish/Irish connections back in the 1700s which seems to play such an important role in many of our own ancestors' lives. Sally Chirlin Chenango Co., NY

    2. Still trying to find my "unknown Barr" who married Charlotte Beck. Charlotte and her children ended up in Jackson, TN (from LA) Charlotte (Lottie?) Beck (born 1841 in Belleview, Jefferson Co., MS) married this man in 1860 probably in Tensas Parish, Louisiana (at least first child was born about 1861 and Charlotte is shown living with parents in 1860). All the children were probably born in Waterproof, Tensas Parish, LA. He must have "died" by 1870, as Charlotte is listed as living back with her parents and with the children listed below: Willie Barr born abt 1861 I. W. Barr Born abt 1866 Mary Barr Born abt 1868 J. 2. Bill Gibson, A similarity of names makes me wonder whether there might be some connection between our families. Did your gggrandfather Samuel Barr have a brother named George? My gggrandfather, George Barr, was born in Pennsylvania in 1826. His father's name was Samuel Barr, and his grandfather's name was, supposedly, David Barr. George Barr married Susan Smith, supposedly in Ohio, and they were in Kosciusko County, Indiana by the late 1850's. George and Susan Barr had three sons, David, Samuel, and John. John Barr had three children, Earl (my grandfather), Guy, and Pearl. As you can see there are some of the same names in your line as in mine. I have run into a brick wall trying to find out more about George and his ancestors. 2. Hi Bob, I actually have no idea of Samuel BARRS family. I hit a brick wall when I got this far. I am going to Indiana, PA in August to try to find out more about this part of the family. Both sides of my family, my mothers and fathers have been in Indiana County for over 200 years but I have not gotten past my ggrandfather William Nelson Barr as far as going back into history of the family. I hit a brick wall on him for a little while because of his two wives. His first wife, my ggrandmothers name was Margaret PALMER and after her death he remarried a Margaret LYDIC. I am finally getting the children separated from these two marriages. Recently found another brother I didn't know my grandfather had. He is buried in Dixonville where Margaret PALMER is also buried. Don't know where you are from and if you are familiar with the area or not. I currently live in Arizona so it is hard for me but I plan on going back there in the future quite often. Will keep looking and keep you in mind, Sincerely, Bill Gibson

    2. I am working on two BARR families who were born in Bangor, County Down, Ireland. James BARR, a mason, born 6 April 1860. He married Elizabeth McFADDEN, native of Brush Mills, Ireland. They emigrated to the United States after 1886, when their son, William, was born (25 September 1886). They settled first in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, United States, eventually moving to Onondaga County, New York, United States. They had six (6) known children, who were listed in their Declaration of Intention to become a United States Citizen. 3. Help! I am researching my family tree. I am a direct descendant of slaves of Dr. William H. Barr of Abbeville County, S.C. He moved there in about 1810 from Rowan County, N.C. and soon married Rebecca Reid. Dr. Wm. Barr was the son of Capt. James Barr (1745-1788) and Elizabeth McCorkle. I am trying to figure out if Capt. James Barr had slaves. Has anyone come across any record or reference to Capt. James Barr owning slaves? I would GREATLY appreciate this information. Often times, sons inherited slaves from their father. I am trying to figure out if maybe Dr. William Barr inherited slaves (my ancestors) and took them with him to Abbeville County, S.C. Thanks!
