    2. Fred
    3. Hi folks, I'd just like to remind you that there are people out there that just wait to get their hands on information about you, such as your home address or home phone number. Please, be very careful about giving out that information to anyone you don't know, not to mention posting it to a list like this one. We have over 200 registered email addresses to this list, and I don't know them personally, do you? I'm not saying that there are those type of people on this list, only that they do subscribe to lists in order to do exactly that, get personal info. Do not post it to the list! Have folks get hold of you through your email address and you can upgrade your relationship from there if you like. At least you will have a buffer zone to work within. Please do not respond to this email. It is for list admin info posting only. Thanks, Fred

    3. I would like to know if you have any additional information on the family in Ireland? My GGG Grandfather Alexander Barr was born in Antrim Co. we think May1772. This about all we know about him before arriving in America before 1800. I have no idea of a ship or anything. Family history says he came with 2 brothers but again I have no names. He married Mary McElheny in 1803 in Dauphin Co Pa. near Harrisburg. If you have anything feel free to contact me direct or through Rootsweb lists. Thanks in advance. 1. [BARR] Sarah Jane Barr Johnson Carter
    2. Susan Y. Clawson
    3. The Lineage of "Aunt Sally" Sarah Jane BARR JOHNSON CARTER (1846-1938) In the way of people in small towns in the nineteenth- century, everyone in Dayton, Indiana, called her Aunt Sally,   but my   family was sure she really was a   relative.   My Dad   just didn’t know how   she was related. Turns   out   she was the niece by marriage of my   great -great -great- grandfather Abraham Barr Jr.’s   sister   Martha. For 46 years Aunt Sally was   active in the   women’s organization of   Dayton   Memorial Presbyterian Church, serving   as   president of the Missionary Society   for   18   years. She was the oldest   member for some   years. When she   came to dinner, she   always   wanted to   help dry dishes, and my   Grandmother   was reluctant because she often dropped   things. In checking records of the Barrs in the 1870 census I have discovered Sarah Jane Barr, 24, living with the family of Anna Eliza and Benjamin Wallace. Anna Eliza is the daughter of Abraham Barr II and Catherine Rush. This seems further proof that Aunt Sally was treated as kin.   Here is Sarah Jane again in 1880 with the Wallace household, but termed Sarah Jane Wallace, 30, b. OH. Still, I'm sure it is Sarah Jane Barr. She was marrried for the first time the following year, 1881, to widower Abner Johnson Jacob BARR, 1778-1874 Lancaster Co, PA   ["Lame Jacob," s/o John & Veronica HERR BARR] m. 1. [BARR] B. F. Sides
    2. Susan Y. Clawson
    3. Surnames: BARR, SIDES, JOHNSON, HOUSEKEEPER; KING. McSPARRAN, McCOULLOUGH B. F. SIDES, M. D., was born Sept. 26, 1822, in Bart Township, this county, a son of John and Sarah (BARR) Sides, of Lancaster county. John Sides was a son of Peter Sides , of German ancestry, who was one of the oldest settlers of this county. The children born to John Sides were: Abraham, who for thirty years was an efficient engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad; Barbara, who married Dr. Samuel A. Johnson; Elizabeth, who married P. W. Housekeeper, of Drumore township; Peter H., colonel of a regiment during the Civil war, who married and lived in Philadelphia; and our subject, Dr. B. F. Sides.Reared in the home of his Grandmother BARR, B. F. Sides received careful early training, and was kept at study in the private schools of Lancaster county, and was later placed at the New London, Mt. Joy, and Strasburg schools. Deciding upon a medical career, he then entered upon the study of the science under the careful instruction of Drs. Alexander and Patrick Cassidy, who were the l! eading physicians of the county, at that period. For three years he benefited by their instruction, entering then the Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, from which   institution have graduated many of the distinguished practitioners of the county. In the spring of 1846, Dr. Sides was graduated, and with zeal entered upon the practice of his noble calling, in the county of his birth, settling among the good people of Drumore township, where for over fifty-five years he has been and is still in active practice. On March 2, 1854, Dr. Sides was married to Miss Elenora E. King, a daughter of John and Isabella McSparran King, of Drumore township. To Dr. and Mrs. Sides three children were born, these being: Janet, who died in Infancy; Sallie B., who passed away in young womanhood; and Isabella S., born Dec. 11, 1854, who married the late Sanders McSparran, and resides in Philadelphia (she has two daughters, Sallie B. and Amelia).Mrs. Sides was born March 28, 1830, her origin b! eing Scotch-Irish, and her family one of the leading ones of Lancaster county. The family is not a numerous one, her only sister being Mrs. Janet S. McCullough, widow of Sanders McCullough, of Oxford, Chester Co, Pennsylvania.Dr. Sides joined Washington Lodge F. & A. M. No. 156, at Chestnut Level, which later was moved to Drumore Center, and still later to Quarryville, where it is now located. His political convictions have made him a stanch Democrat, but his life has been too filled with work in his profession to permit him to accept any political office, no matter how flattering the offer. Dr. Sides is a truly representative man, one of the class whose lives reflect honor on good old Lancaster county.Biographical Annals of Lancaster County, Pa. (1903), vol. ?, p. 83. -- Susan Y. 3. Write to the library in the town they were living in that was listed on the 1920 census. Ask the librarian to copy the page(s) with all Barr surnames listed in their city directory and send them to you. You might also look in the phone listings for that area now to see if any of the sons are listed, then call or write to them for possible information. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gold" <Silver9876@earthlink.net> To: <BARR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2003 3:44 PM Subject: [BARR] Mercer Co., NJ, 1920, BARR, Clara > > Hi, > I just joined this list and am hoping for some help. > I don't know how active it is. > There was a Clara BARR living with her 3 sons & her mother > Mary Locke in Mercer Co., in NJ on the NJ census. > Does anyone have any further information on them? > Could someone look them up in the census and give me details. > Are there city directories/phone directories where they could be > found? > Thank you. > =^..^= > > > ==== BARR Mailing List ==== > Fred W.
