    3. I'm afraid this isn't my Barr, at least, not that I have been able to prove. My John Barr has also been listed as John B. Barr and his wife is Susannah. 3. Grace Frances Barr born Feb. 22, 1882 married Charles Bechtel Johnson born July 29, 1873. They were married Jan. 1, 1904 at Old St. Georges Church in Philadelphia. My grandfather was from New Berlinville, Pa. near Boyertown, my grandmother was from Michigan (to the best of my knowledge). I don't know who her parents were but her father was a Civil War vet and I have his medal but have no idea of his first name or anything about her mother. Often middle names were given using the mother's name and I wondered if her mother's name might be Frances. I don't know how my grandmother got to Philadelphia except possibly she visited her sister Emma Lucan Barr who married Charles Trout also of Philadelphia. I know a little about that family having visited back and forth regularly. There were other members of her family: a sister Mabel who lived in Jacksonville, Fla., a sister in Liberty, NY (don't remember her name), and two brothers who were never heard from and I think their names were Alfred and Fred. I know they tried in vain to find them. Thanks for responding and if you can direct me to another source I would appreciate it. 3. BARR Family History I am researching my son-in-law family tree and have found two women named BARR in his tree. The first is Margaret BARR, born about 1723 in Renfrew, Scotland who married about 1744 to a William Stewart born about 1720 also in Renfrew. I have no details of Margaret's parents. Margaret and William had at least 5 children:- Marion b. 1745 in Fulwood who married in 1770 to a James Carruth. Katherine b. 1750 in Fullwood who married in 1773 to William Allinson. Allan b. 1752 in Burnbrae who married in 1779 to Janet BARR, the second of my BARR's. Hugh b. 1754 in Burnbrae, Killellan. Margaret b. about 1760 in Fullwood, who married in 1779 a Robert Orr. Janet and Allan Stewart had at least eight children:- William b. 1780 Burnbrae. Archibald b. 1781 Houston and Killellan. Allan b. 1783 Burnbrae. Jean b. 1785 Burnbrae. Robert b. 1786 Burnbrae. Margaret b. 1788 Burnbrae. Janet b. 1791 Burnbrae who married in 1812 an Archibald Clark. Margaret b. 1794 in Houston & Killellan. Do you recognize any of these people? 3. Seeking info about the Bare/Bear/Baer families in Virginia. A neighbor here in Dayton, Indiana, is researching her house, a large two-story brick house. It appears the house was built by David Bare/Bear about 1878. This David Bare first turns up in a note in a local Methodist church time capsule as the brickmason on the building in 1866. Then he appears on a special town census in 1871 (the census was done in preparation for a vote on incorporation). In 1871 he had one person in his household, so apparently he was not married then. Next he appears to be the husband of Sarah E. Baer [yes Baer], who bought the lot in 1878 (yes, Sarah bought it) and he is on a nearby lot in an 1878 map as David Bear [yes Bear]. We can't find him in the 1870 Federal census, but the family is in the 1880 Federal census for Dayton, Indiana, Tippecanoe County: David Bear, 37, VA, brickmason parents b. VA Elisabeth Bear, wife, 30, VA, parents b. VA Maud Bear, dau, 5, IN Then the family disappears from the area, so far as we know now. So it appears we are looking for a David b. 1843 in VA. parents unknown, but also b. VA. David married, about 1875, probably in Indiana. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks, Susan

    1. BARR, Robert - BELFAST - abt 1847
    2. Hi everyone: I have a real brick wall trying to find out more about my Barr's. If anyone can help, I would be most grateful!! My ggrandfather, Robert S Barr, was born abt 1847, we believe in Belfast. He married Jane Simpson of Glasgow and they lived in Belfast. He died 3 Oct 1897 at 106 Duncairn Gardens, Belfast. They had three children: Marion Barr, b 1882; Matthew b 1883 and Robert Simpson b 1886, all in Belfast. Marion married William Dawson Hamilton in 1907 and I have all that line. However, I have nothing on Matthew or Robert, other than a postcard from a Matt that might be this Matthew in 1910 that says that his lungs are much improved (?). Any connections or suggestions at all? Thanks, Marion
