In prussian records "Barony" with umlats over the "y" can denote male. "Baronin" can denote female. I knew where my BARON surname ended but going backwards I find the name spelled with the "y" or "in". I finally found information corroborating the above explanation. Thus finding the parents and siblings of my husband's gr-gr-grandfater.
