Mr. Baron was a non-commissioned officer of the Seventh cavalry at Fort Mead, near Sturgis, from 1879 to 1884, and as such had charge of Capt. Keough's horse Commanche, the only participant which escaped alive from the famous General Custer massacre June 25, 1876.
