All reliable information indicates that the Casper Bernhardt family came from the Amt (locality) of Sprendlingen, in the Margravate Baden at that time ruled from Kirchberg. They were Palatinate Germans, not Dutch. Today Sprendlingen in situated in the Rheinhessen Bezirk (district). To located it, find the Rhine River which forms its northern boundery and draw a line SSE from Bingen and WSW from Mainz. Sprendlingen is located near where there two lines intersect. The irony is Iived in Germany for 12 years and on at least a half dozen occasions attended weekend Easter retreats in Budenheim - a village nearby. I've been in and through Sprendlingen, but at the time I was not aware that my roots sprang from that area.
