Perhaps this should be refocused on known family origins regardless of where. I will be happy to share some space to support this. Maybe we can start to find how many family fathers we have and get some index for lines like many other families have. > >Known facts about my line stops in 1787 in Franklin Co. VA, Family stories say my Daniel came from (what is now) Franklin Co. PA and his father is shown to be Daniel (also). Family stories also state his Daniel 1st immigrated in 1749. This has not been proven and perhaps the immigration was from say New York. An Anthony Barnhart family that shows up in the 1750's could be related with the elder Anthony, being Daniel 1st father but this is my speculation. The other lines I have heard of seem to point back to the 1706 Johannes Barnhart Immgrant in New York. or the the Conrad Barnhart who immigrated in 1774, (to late to be related to my line or Johannes). > >I would like to here from others what lines (especially in PA and VA pre 1800, but not limited to that). > >Michael A. Since everyone is checking in and there appear to be quite a number of BARNHART researchers I thought I'd add my two cents. Mine is easy: Michael's line is my line. We are half first cousins once removed. My grandmother is Mildred "Micki" Barnhart who m: Roland Johnson. My grandparents, parents, my brothers and I are listed on Michael's BARNHART page (Nice page BTW Michael!). Everything I know about the BARNHART line came from Michael. That is why I haven't been to active on this board - I don't have much additional information. But I can add a few notes on the value of a common web site for the entire surname. I manage a large research cooperative and am overhauling my web site for my YARBERRY and GAMBILL lines. The GAMBILL line in particular has really grown. Last year I thought I was the only one researching the line -- much like how I felt with BARNHART research. Then, after collecting lines of four other researchers, and posting queries and advertising just about everywhere imaginable on the WEB and in genealogy groups, we are now well over 250 researchers in just over a year. 150 of those are online and have computer files. We started with my own personal computer records of about 2000 folks. Now we are well over 26,000. I guess this is a note of encouragement. I have had great success expanding my own tree with the approach being discussed here. I guess that is enough for now.
