Walter Bernard was my Revolutionary War grandfather. Born 28 Feb. 1758, Frederick, Maryland; died 5 February 1841, Franklin County, Virginia. He married Ruth Hill in Henry County, Va. 4 June 1782. Our problem is that we have never been able to connect Walter to a family. We have traced the things he states in his Rev. War Pension but find no records. Recently we have discovered that John Bernard, who was beheaded by in the Indians at Denton Station, now Nashville, Tennessee, in the spring of 1780, may be his father. John's family was awarded land by North Carolina in 1792- as "heir" the person so named was Walter Bernard and two of Walter's sons, William Samuel and Thomas Hill Bernard, claimed the land for Walter. We cannot find out anything about John. Does he belong to anyone? Will share any information about the later family in exchange to information regarding these early families in Tennessee. Please reply privately. Thanks for any help. Jane Bernard Williams @ Social Circle janwilli@mindspring.com
