What a wonderful surprise to see that someone else has information on the Casper Bernhardt family. Casper was my g.g.g.g.g.grandfather, Jacob, my g.g.g.g.grandfather. My grandmother, Minnie Mae Barnhart Wiest, lived to be 92 and all she told me about her parents was their names and place of residence (Chicora, PA). I have a copy of Casper's will if anyone is interested in seeing it, I'd be glad to send it via snail mail. I have some birth, death and marriage information that I would be happy to share. I have listed as Casper's birthplace - Sprenglen, Essen, Germany abt. 1726. That comes very close to what Gary sent to the Barnhart list - Sprendlingen. I have a copy of the ship BOSTON's listing of Casper and his oldest son, Johann Wilhelm,as passengers, arriving in Philadelphia November 10, 1764. Please let me know if any of you would like more of my information. It would be nice to fill in many of my empty spaces. Jeanne Peterson jpeterson@whoi.edu

All reliable information indicates that the Casper Bernhardt family came from the Amt (locality) of Sprendlingen, in the Margravate Baden at that time ruled from Kirchberg. They were Palatinate Germans, not Dutch. Today Sprendlingen in situated in the Rheinhessen Bezirk (district). To located it, find the Rhine River which forms its northern boundery and draw a line SSE from Bingen and WSW from Mainz. Sprendlingen is located near where there two lines intersect. The irony is Iived in Germany for 12 years and on at least a half dozen occasions attended weekend Easter retreats in Budenheim - a village nearby. I've been in and through Sprendlingen, but at the time I was not aware that my roots sprang from that area. I am searching for a John Barnhart in Pennsylvania. He either emigrated to PA from Germany as a young lad or was born in PA. His parents were Anthony Barnhart and Catherine Mellinger and siblings, that I know of, were Fanny, Herman, Samuel, and Anthony, Jr. It appears he enlisted in the Revolutionary War from Lancaster Co. He married Barbara Flury 24 Jan 1777. They had no children in their 25-year marriage. I have information on John, his next two marriages (Balsley sisters), children and descendancy since1802. I would like any information about him prior to that year. I am happy to share what I have. Sharon dorland@ctaz.com
