This is really interesting because when reading some note by my now deceased Grandmother, Wanda Caroline Barnett I discovered that she had written some of our family Barnett names as Barnett(e). I wondered about it but found no answers. By the time I was born, the Barnetts were recorded by family members as Barnett. Thank you for some new insight. My grandftaher added the e in the 1920's. The story he told me was that if we spelled our name: Barnet we would be Jewish Barnett we would be English Barnette we would be French. So, my grandfather was born English and I was born French! I had a neighbor in Atlanta, GA. One day she informed me her maiden name was Barnett. (Maybe it was Barnet, she did not spell it for me) I knew she was Jewish and I knew she was born in Poland. Something told me to ask her what her name was BEFORE it was Barnet(t) She told me it was Berjenski (or however she might have spelled it) MIC Mic Barnette writes a genealogy column in the Houston Chronicle.
