I think you will find the Barnetts of Montgomery AL were in Colonial Georgia (just before the Revolution) particularly along the Broad River. Prior to Georgia these people were in Virginia. Marks-Barnett and Kin by Pettigrew is a good book to research these families. It is often found in genealogical libraries particularly the 1972-ish edition. The Barnetts of Perry Co, AL initially came from Spartanburg District, SC. Prior to that they were in Virginia. The Barnett book by Janice Barnett Craft is a good book for this family. There were few copies of this book published. Both books mentioned above are out of print. From our Barnett Surname DNA Project it is appearing that these two Barnett families are related way back in Colonial Virginia. We will have a better feel for that after a few more Barnett participant's take the test and the results for some pending tests are returned.
