Good luck getting UK doners for the DNA study. DNA doners from UK seem hard to get. Some negative phobia, maybe. >From my experience, I've tried to get several PACE males in the UK to enter the PACE DNA study. No one answers, even when US Pace descendent folk offer to pay the cost. "Mic Barnette" <mic@barnettesbooks.com> says: I am the administrator of the Barnett Surname DNA Project. Currently we have 16 participants in the study group. It would be great if you could locate any of your male Barnett relatives who would be willing to participate in our project. Currently all our participants have deep American roots except one who lives in Austrailia and traces his ancestry back to Ireland. To have Barnetts in the test group whose identifiable ancestry goes back to the Bristish Isles and Europe would be of benefit to all. To match connecting family groups on both sides of the ocean would make the project most sucessful. Richard BARNET of Ranton, Staffordshire m 4 Feb 1720 RANTON + Mary PACE Chr 3 Dec 1696 NORBURY http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/uk/1000.htm#barnett I wrote the local UK list, ENG-STS-GNOSALL-L@rootsweb.com to see if a DNA doner for the BARNETT study could be found. Maybe folks in England consider this just another gov't or commercial scheme to invade their privacy, or flood their inboxes with uncontrollable spam from the US, pointed out by BBC's 'Click On-Line' programme. To illustrate a UK opinion of DNA testing the listowner of the Staffordshire list says: =========================================== Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 12:52:17 -0000 From: "Dave Ogden" To: STAFFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [STS] List Admins DNA Testing and the STS List There is no place on the Staffordshire List for schemes such as this. I entered the PACE DNA test and surprizingly, result matched perfectly with today's descendents of a JOHN PACE of 1693 Middlesex County, Virginia. Since my ancestry stems from Paces of Shropshire in the English Midlands, back to the early 1600s, this large group of PACE descendents in the southern US now know that their ancestor that they believe they descend from, whose first US colonial record was his land purchace in 1693 in Middlesex County Virginia. I think this is exciting. Anyway, it's an uphill trudge, getting UK folk to enter this DNA study. Good luck ! -- Gord Pace - Ontario Canada http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/
