Hi Everyone: The Barnett DNA Website at http://micbarnette.bravepages.com been updated. Go to the DNA Page. Visit the Results Page; Genetic Distance Chart; Participants Page; Associated Place and Associated Surnames Page. If you have a Barnett or Barney website not on our links page, please send it to us. The lineage has been added for a participant (0017) descending from Ezekial Barnett who was born about 1777 in SC and moved by 1835 to Lauderdale County, AL where he died in 1871. Ezekiel's wife was Olive. The marker results for this participant have not been returned and will be added to the website when the results are received. In addition the 37 marker results for two others have been added. We now have 37 marker results for three participants and several in the process of being upgraded. The price for the 12 marker test is $99; the 25 marker test $169 and the 37 marker test $229. The price to upgrade from a 12 to 25 marker test is $90; 12 to 37 markers $149 and from 25 to 37 $58. As a group we get discounts otherwise the price would be higher. We suggest going for the 25 or better yet the 37 marker test. The 12 marker test yeilds a lot of false connections that disappear when the test has been refined to 25 or 37 markers. If you are a male with the surname Barnett you owe it to yourself and your family to participate in the testing. Assuming you are into genealogy it will tell you if you are on the right track in your genealogical research or not. The results in our test group have surprised us several times already. The results have verified researchers were correct in their research and on the reverse, it has shown their research to be faulty. At this point the DNA testing will not tell one who their exact ancestor is. It will only verify there is a common ancestor or there is not one. The more markers tested will help define how close the common ancestor is from someone else being tested. If you are a female or a Barnett descendant with a surname other than Barnett you might search about in your family for a male who still carries the Barnett surname. You may have to convince him of the benefits of DNA testing. For those types of points you can visit our website or the Family Tree DNA website at http://www.familytreedna.com . If you do find a male surnamed Barnett in your family, particularly if they are not heavily into genealogy, you might want to either offer to pay for the test or better yet get a group of other family members together and pool your resources to have the person tested. A number of years ago I checked out every Barnett family in the United States on the 1790-1850 US census. I found Barnetts from every country in the world as well as every state in the US. There is no way all those people were related. Our website is reflective of this premise. Of 17 participants we have at least 6 different Barnett lines, plus two Barney family lines represented in our test group. Of the thousands of people named Barnett we have only begun our search. So, as I stated above, we would love to have your Barnett,(Barnette, Barnet, Barney, Barnard, Bernard, or any other spelling) family represented in our test group. If you have any questions not answered on the website please feel free to contact me. MIC
