My line ties into Barnett/Malicoat, Mallicoat, etc. of Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mo. as well as Indian Territory. Anyone relating to any of the below, please contact me. George Washington2 Johnston (John William Albert1) was born 1793 in VA, and died May 08, 1870 in Brodhead, Rockcastle Co., KY. He married Sarah Barnett Abt. 1812 in VA. She was born Abt. 1793 in VA., and died May 01, 1879 in Brodhead, Rockcastle Co., KY. Notes for George Washington Johnston: 1842 Smyth Co., VA. ( Court) A dispute over land that George bought from John Deskins was settled in court by John Miller and Harvey George. They had sold 2 tracks of 140 ac. for $160.00. John Deskins had bought the land from Wm. Mitchell and was adjacent to the lands of Richard Fields, Samuel Whitley and John Whitely. John Deskins admitted he sold the land to George Johnston, but they deleted the land that was annexed by Buchanan out of the payment from Geroge Johnston. William was a farmer, his land was situated in the western portion of the county, on or near the Tennessee line. He was living in Scott Co., VA. by 1836. Aug. 30, 1860 William Johnson and Sarah (his wife) of Scott Co., VA deeded to James Buske ( for $500.) a tract of land in Scott Co., VA. on the Clinch River and the Tennessee line, containing 195 acres. In 1870 the family was all living within the boundaries of Powell Township, and their Post Office was at Pattonville, a village situated at the base of Powell's mountain. Living on the frontier and lacking schooling, neither William Johnson nor his wife could read or write. Some his children, however, were able to attend school in Scott Co. Their ages were listed in the census from which were calculated the approximate years of birth, as given above. William died during the Civil War, in 1864, his death was recorded in the County Register of Deaths, with his son, General J. Johnston giving the information. On March 1864 an appraisal was recorded of the estate of William Johnson, deceased. The property listed a total of $495.00. On the same date as Sale Bill of personal property of William Johnson, deceased, was recorded in the Will book. David Johnson, as some of the buyers, and widow Sarah Johnson was mentioned.
