I am a Barnett living in Mabank, Kaufman Co., Texas. I am looking for information on my GGG Grandfather. Family legend has it that 3 Barnett brother came to Texas together. Unfortunately the family do not remember then names of the 3 brother ... some think it was 'Jack' (my GGG grandfather), George, and John. Some have other names ... Jack and George seem to be in most of the memories. But Jack's name was not his real name ... it could have been a part of his name ... i.e.. Andrew Jackson Barnett. Part of the family legend says that 'Jack' was arrested for killing a man (there are many variations on this story) and he was put in prison in Rusk, Texas... I checked and Rusk State Hospital was a part of the prison system at that time. Somehow there was a mix up and Lucinda was told that he died in prison. But in later years they discovered their mistake. To late for Lucinda had already married and widowed and married again. But the story goes that John James (their youngest son) went to see his father in prison when he was 21 and his father said he was not his son, that his son was a baby. In later years he was released and rumored to have married a lady near Rusk, name unknown. (It is said that the town she lived in was named for her family.) We just don't know. Nancy ... abt 1820 Obadiah ... May 1821 Elizabeth C. ... abt 1822 Benjamin Franklin, Jr., abt 1828 Isabella ... May 10, 1826 Catherine ... abt 1831 Ardena A. ... April 18, 1832 Catherine b. abt 1831 married (June 17, 1847; Lamar Co., Texas) to William Gregory ... both William and Catherine died or were killed (family lore says they were killed by indians) about 1849. They had only one child that I can find ... Lucinda Emily Gregory b. abt 1847, Texas d. February 4, 1933, Forestburg, Tx Lucinda was raised by her grandmother Catherine Simmons and her aunt Ardena (Simmons) Robnett (sp). Lucinda married first a man named Barnett ... ??? Barnett (Jack?) their children were: Tom b. abt 1873 John James b. February 25, 1875, Wolf City, Hunt Co., Texas. d. April 4, 1940, Weed Patch, California. John was married September 24, 1901, in Revenna, Fannin Co., Texas to Bessie H. Hord b. February 16, 1885, Montgomery, Kane Co., Ill (?) Lucinda next married Westly Carroll, who died within two years of their wedding. She had one child of this union, who was still born. Lucinda lastly married James Monroe Nethery, she and James remained married till their deaths ... they had many children. Please, if you know anything about this family let me know.
