Maxine, Thank you so much! I have traced my father's line all of the way to Mecklenburg, NC but was completely stuck there. Did everyone have to name their son William Barnett??? Too confusing. I even made a trip to the Charlotte Library a couple of years ago and came up with the Spratt Family info. I tried to locate the old Barnett Homestead there in Charlotte which was supposed to be next to the Polk family homesite. I found the Polk's of course because it is a Historical site. Unfortunately, I think that the Old Barnett Homestead has met its demise as either a shopping mall or a Spaghetti Warehouse, the dinner I ate there was delicious!
