    3. Barnett Story of Indians William Barnett family( line back of William,(4) John,(3), John (2), John .(1). BARNETT'S and INDIAN ESCAPE. ( Ft Pitt NC I beleive.) In year 1757 there was at work oin farm of Joseph Barnett, a small group. one was Mr Macky. News came speedily that their wives and children were all murdered at the Block House by Indians. While Mr Barnett with all possible haste was etting ready huis horse, he requestedMacky to examine his rifle see to it was ready. Everthing ready they monted horses taking a near way to the block house. A party of indians lying in ambush rose and fired at Mr Barnett in front and broke his arm. His rifle dropped and a Indian snatched it up and shot Mr Macky in head. Surgical aid summond and fixed Mar Barnett's arm. Not till the next day, did Mar Batrnett hear that his family was safe with exception as son , William Barnett then 8 or 9 yrd old. A prospect of a treaty with Indians for the return of the prisoners they had taken. Mr Barnett left family behind and sert off with Col. Grogan and abt 500 regulars to Fort Pitt. Mr Barnett had a cousin , another Joseph Barnett at Ft Pitt. remained at Ft Pitt for some time without obtaining and seeing his son. After some time his hopes had not been realized and he had been gone too long from his family and started for home Col Grogasn made all attempte to secure release of Barnett's son. Through some trader's he was able to accomplish this. Young William Barnett was brought to the Ft Pitt and was kept in strict security for arrival of his father. William was so anxious to return to the Indian way that he tried several attempts to escape and was brought back. thinking his father had been killed. His father finially arrived to Ft Pitt 9n some business same day he was brought back. His father was tasken to where he was sleeping and awaked to see him beside his bed. Untill he heard his voice and saw him he was not sure of him. WEarkly next day he was with his father and on road tro home. His treatment at hands of Indians was impairing his life and he died at early age in 1788 leaving a wife and dau, Mary weho mar to a Mr Franks. Joseph Barnett after the great sorrow of loss of his wife removed to Allegheny Co. and spent reamider of his life with a widowed dau, Margaret Barnett McClure in Miffilin TWP where he died Nov 1808 at age of 82 yrs..
