Hello list, I just recd a message from VA on Harold Peters. For those of you that never heard of Harold, let me fill you in. Harold Peters is one of the finest researcher I have had the pleasure of knowing. In my book, he is one of the greatest genealogist of Scott Co., VA. Harold spent many hours at the Scott Co., Court House researching for many and most of the time, didn't even charge a fee, he collected old family pictures of the first settlers of Scott Co. which you could order for twenty-five cents per picture. Ask him who so-and-so was and he would rattle it off the top of his head with dates etc. He lives in Gate City, VA. The first time (1997) I was at the Scott Co. Court house, I saw this little old man just going through records and kinda looking up at me at times. having a feeling he was someone special, I struck up a conversation with him, yep, he was a walking, talking library. He could tell you in many lines what states your family moved to and where to look for more information. He gave me my first true lead on one of my lines, turned out later he was indirectly related to me through another line. When I returned back to Fresno, CA a large package was waiting for me from Harold, copies of old pictures and sheets of family information. I sent him a check, but the check went uncashed, just a return note asking for all my family information, which I gladly sent along with old pictures I had collected over the years. His love for genealogy was greater then I have ever seen in anyone. Please remember him in you prayers. He's special. <<Harold is going into the hospital today. They found 2 spots on his lungs.
