    3. Hi Everyone: I am uploading the new information we have for the Barnett DNA Surname Project. It should be available later tonight after it uploads to the web. The website is http://micbarnette.bravepages.com Then click on the DNA link. We have 7 tests returned (and one unreturned) with some surprising results. With the 7 participants we have at least 4 different groups. 2 people match in one group and three in another. The other 2 participants do not match any of the others. There is quite a bit of information on the website both about DNA/genetics and genealogically about the participants and their DNA results. For one there is a lineage for each participant to give you some information on the ancestor to the participant. Perhaps someone in the group is related to you. There is Results Page that gives the Allelle Markers and their valuations. Associated with that page is a link to a comparison chart that tells the distance between each of the other participants to the individual participant you are then viewing. While we are off to a good start we need more participants. If your name is Barnett either you or a male relative can participate. If you are a woman you can sponsor your male Barnett relative. If your name is not Barnett and you decsend from one, please attempt to find someone in your line who currently carries the surname Barnett and ask them or sponsor them in the test. As families get together during the holiday season try to set up a collection to help defray the cost of soeone taking the test. The price is not all that high but all researchers and non reasearchers alike will benefit from someone taking the test. It is not necessary that all male members of a family take the test however it might be a good idea if at least one male in each living generation or family group participate in the test. For instance first cousins from two sides of a family might take the test. Mutations are normal in DNA. Over a period of generation mutations normally occur and make the markers different even among closely related persons. Sometimes there are mutations between brothers, fathers and/or sons. When mutations are found it is helpful to know who or when the mutation occured. If you are tracing your family and are not very far back DNA testing can help but not solve your problems. It will tell you if you are related to any other participant. Thatis a very big plus. On the down side, the test will not tell you which ancestor is related to the participant's ancestor or specifically which generation from which the two of you relate. The DNA test will simply verify a relationsship exists but nor how it connects. That part is up to you as the researcher. If you would like to join the group click on one of the links on the website. You can also go to the Family Tree DNA website at http://www.familytreedna.com . When you sign up on the FTDNA website a message is generated to me as the adminstrator. I then reply back to you with a link to go to the FTDNA website and place your order. Hope the site helps you. MIC

Don't despair. People join the list from time to time and others seach the archives looking for people with a common interest. The response may come quite some time after you post it. > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > > >
