Hello Art, A James Barnett who married Mary (Polly) Stepleton is ascendent of my husband Stephen Barnett; I have done some research, but several others have done much more - among them Mr. Fordyce Logan, Jr. The documented research confirms that this James Barnett married Mary Stepleton on 2 April 1799 in Montgomery County, Virginia. Other have her name documented as Stapleton. But both with the father's name of William. Perhaps these are "your people".
