    3. Hi Tom: I suggest you try to find someone in your family still carrying the Barnett surname and entice them to participate in the Barnett Surname DNA Project. There is a good chance your SC Nathan is related to the ones from New Kent County, Virginia and Georgia. They all carry the unusual given name "Nathan". One of our participants in the DNA project has taken the test and matched perfectly with me. My ancestors were in Goochland County, VA and Spartanburg, SC. My suspicion is that my Goochland County , Virginia people were initially from New Kent County. Since New Kent County is a burned county we need to do some pretty intense researching in whatever other extraneous records we can locate to tie these groups together. The more participants from the varous branches we have participating the better we will understand how these people relate. In addition to the Virginia people who were in SC and Virginia there is at least one other totally unrelated (as proven by the DNA results) Barnett family that was in SC, Georgia, and Alabama-all not too far in distance from my people of the Goochland County branch. I am in the process of moving from Houston to Dallas and have not had much chance to work the DNA website. As soon as I get everything settled I will be updating it reflecting som enew results that have been received. In the meanwhile please g o to the website and check it out. If you know a Barnett please have them consider participating in the test group. Only a male with the surname Barnett can participate in the test. Anyone, male-female-or someone not named Barnett can sponsor a Barnett. In fact if you have a group of researchers interested in a specific Barnett ancestor you could all chip in (financially) and sponsor someone named Barnett who descends from your common Barnett ancestor. You wold all benefit from that person taking the test and learning the results. I sponsored my cousin who is a Finch, my grandmother's maiden name. Georgia. Likely candidates for Nathan's father is Thomas or Jonathan Barnett who were in Forsyth in 1840. I would guess Jonathan because Nathan named a son Jonathan and didn't name one Thomas. Nathan and family were on the 1850 census of Forsyth and the 1860 thru 1880 census of Milton Co. Ga. They lived between Ocee and Roswell. Children were: Cynthia E, 1844, Martha A, 1846 married Spencer Burnett, Francis E, 1849, Henry L, 1851, Jonathan 1856, Barnabus J, 1857, Julia 1859, Elizabeth 1862 married Samuel A. Alexander, William H, 1865, Melvina 1867, Early G, 1875. > Trying to connect this family with any of the other Barnett's of this area in Georgia. > > Tom > > > ==== BARNETT Mailing List ==== > Remember to clearly state the area (place, county, state, country) > in which you are interested.
