    2. "Virginia Circuit Court of the County of Scott, on Monday, the 30th day of January, in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and twenty right. Present: Honorable E. T. Carter. Commonwealth, Plaintiff vs Murder John Barnett Defendant. This day came the attorney for the commonwealth and the defendant was led to the bar in custody of the Jailor of this county and being arraigned plead not guilty to the indictment, to which plea to the commonwealth replied, issue being joined and after swearing and examining the Jurors summoned and in attendance upon the court a panel of twenty persons free from all exceptions and qualified to serve as jurors was completed, thereupon the commonwealth by attorney struck four said jurors and the accused likewise struck four of jurors from said panel alternately in the manner prescribed by law and the remaining twelve to-wit: W. P. Kilgore, H. F. Lawson, W. W. Francisco, C. E. Meade, J. W. Fink, I. M. Zion, R. C. Stewart, J. W. Lane, H. G. Sanders, Jacob Leonard, F. M. Bays, and M. C. Carter who being sworn the truth of and upon the premises to speak and a true verdict render upon the issue joined according to the evidence and having partly heard the evidence and the adjourning hour having arrived, they were given in charge of the sheriff of this county, to whom was administered an oath that he would keep them together without communication with any person, that he would neither converse nor communicate with them to appear in court tomorrow morning at nine thirty o'clock. And the defendant was remanded to jail. On motion of Jeff D. Bledsoe, Commissioner of the Revenue for Scott County, Virginia, he has leave to appoint E. S. Starnes as his Deputy. Thereupon the said E. S. Starnes took and subscribed the oath prescribed by law. Commonwealth, Plaintiff vs Murder No 2 John Barnett Defendant It appearing to the court that qualified jurors, not exempt from jury service, cannot be conveniently found in this county for the trail of this case, and the court being of opinion that it is necessary and proper to cause the trail of this case to be summoned from Lee County, Virginia. Therefore the court doth order and direct the Clerk of this Court to issue a venire facias, directed to the Sheriff of said Lee County commanding him to summon the following named persons to-wit: Charlie Kincaid, Wheeler Kesterson, Dan Richmond, R. J. Fulkerson, T. S. Gibson, H. C. T. Dean, George W. Fugate, Thomas Robinson, Frank Crockett, Curry Graybeel, Henry Smith, C. A. Bales, Ross Stickley, Marchall Rowlett, Wiley Moore, Tip Daniel, Colby Fugate, W. S. Parkey, L. G. Marcum, George Smith, Wort McLin, A. Cross McNeil, Thomas Bowen, I. P. Litton, George V. Graham, Wort Kinser, Lee Snodgrass, James H. Hamblin, Emmett Spencer, and E. S. Suttle whose names were taken by the Clerk of this Court from a list of names furnished him by said court, all of whom are citizens and residents of said county of Lee for more than two years and not exempt from jury service, such number of persons being deemed necessary by the court to obtain sufficient numbers of jurors for the trail of this case. The Sheriff of said Lee County is hereby commanded to execute said writ of venire facias by summoning the aforesaid named persons to appear before the Circuit Court of Scott County, Virginia, at the Court House thereof on Thursday the 2nd day of February, 1928 and make return thereof showing the manner of his execution of said writ of venire facias. It being suggested to the court by I. C. Coley, Commissioner of Accounts that Fronia Wells Administratrix of the estate of Victoria Robinett, deceased, has failed to make settlement with the Commissioner of Accounts as the law directs. It is therefore considered by the court that a rule be awarded against the said Fronia Wells Administratrix as aforesaid, directed to the Sheriff of Lee County, returnable here on the 1st day of the next term of this court, to show cause if any she can why she shall not be required to make settlement of her accounts with I. C. Coley, Commissioner of Accounts as required by law. E. T. Carter, Judge"
