Was this David born 1811? I have a David born 1811 but not married to a Maupin. He was married to a Pemberton and to a Greer. ----- Original Message ----- From: dwatson To: BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 7:55 PM Subject: [BARNETT] Col David Barnett, VA, 1854 I meant to say that Col David Barnett & his wife Jane Smith Maupin Barnett moved to MO (so I've heard, but I have no proof of this). Jack, My John Barnett b. 1 Sep. 1772 d. 6 Dec. 1851 is said to have lived on the Savannah River in SC. I found many years ago where he sold his boat building and land in North Augusta SC in the late 1700s or early 1800s before moving to what is today Henderson Co. NC. He married Martha ____ b. 26 Apr. 1779. His children were 5 sons & 3 daughters, David b 10 Jan 1798, Charles b. 29 Oct. 1800, Joseph b. 18 Mar. 1804, James b. 19 July 1806, John P. b. 6 Mar 1809, Narcissa b. 6 Feb. 1812, Susannah b. 22 Sept. 1815 and Elizabeth b. 11 July 1819. I have tried for years to find John and Martha's parents with out success. Maxine, Thank you so much! I have traced my father's line all of the way to Mecklenburg, NC but was completely stuck there. Did everyone have to name their son William Barnett??? Too confusing. I even made a trip to the Charlotte Library a couple of years ago and came up with the Spratt Family info. I tried to locate the old Barnett Homestead there in Charlotte which was supposed to be next to the Polk family homesite. I found the Polk's of course because it is a Historical site. Unfortunately, I think that the Old Barnett Homestead has met its demise as either a shopping mall or a Spaghetti Warehouse, the dinner I ate there was delicious! Looking for a family for a Mary Ellen BARNET(T) who was probably born in County Cork around 1840. She married Daniel O'BRIEN around 1860 and they are believed to have lived in the RossCarberry area of County Cork. Known children were Honora b 1861, Margaret b 1864, Daniel Jr b 1868 and Ellen (Nellie) b about 1870. These children all lived in Boston or Providence, It is believed there was another sister who lived in New York City. If Irish naming patterns were used there were at least several other children. Honora came to the US in 1883 and married Thomas JAMESON from Sunderland, England in 1886. Margaret, Daniel and Ellen also came to the US in the 1880s. Margaret and Daniel Jr never married. Ellen was married for a short time to someone by the name of SHERIDAN. There was another sister married to a man named BROWN, as a cousin named Brenda BROWN showed up in Boston about 1915. She was born in Scotland. Her mother was born in Ireland so her mother wasn't Thomas JAMESON's only sister (She was born in the Shetland Islands.) Mary Ellen probably died about 1895 because Daniel Sr came to live in the Boston area with the rest of the group about 1897. Nothing else is known about Mary Ellen. No parents names or any dates. Daniel O'BRIEN's parents were John O'BRIEN and Margaret DONOVAN. Thanks to anyone who thinks they may have information about this family. Hi Listers--I'm new to this list and looking for information on Col David Barnett, Senator from Montgomery County, VA who married Mrs. Jane A. Maupin (widow of Dr. Wm Amos Maupin of Albemarle) at the Univ of VA in Jan 1854. I have heard that they later moved to VA. Does anyone have any info on this Col David Barnett? Thanks for any help, Denise Maupin Watson Alexandria, VA
Hi Maxine and everyone else: It would be good to have some people from the various groups of Barnetts who can trace their ancestry to the British Isles in our Barnett DNA Project. We have a man from Austrailia whose ancestor came from northern Ireland to Canada then to Austrailia in the early 1800s in our test group. We are waiting on his results right now. We have three people with Virginia ancestry who have matched. Those ancestors were living in Virginia, SC and Ga and AL. There are a couple more tests we are awaiting results for . To make the study help everyone we need many more participants. You can read earlier posts about the project or you can go to the Barnett Surname DNA Project website at http://micbarnette.bravepages.com Just click on the DNA link. Please visit the page. We are placing a lot of genealogy there as well that might help others who relate to Barnetts but are not currently named Barnett. MIC

Does anyone have a copy of EIGHTEENTH CENTURY EMIGRANTS FROM GERMAN-SPEAKING LANDS TO NORTH AMERICA, Vol.1: The Northern Kraichgau by Annette K. Burgert. The book is out of print. I think my Johannes Heinrich Bernhardt family may have lived in that area before coming to America in 1727. If you have a copy, would you please get in touch with me. Madalene
