I have a GR GR Grandfather, John Wilson Barnett who was born in Bradley County, Tennessee. His father was William Heaslett Barnett. William Heaslett Barnett's father was William Barnett(He was in the Revolutionary War from NC). He married Mary Heaslett daughter of William Heaslett. In the 1870 Census, John Wilson Barnett was in Whitfield County, Georgia. He married Indiana D. Cox (daughter of Robert R. Cox) John Wilson served in the Union Army from Bradley County, TN. I am a Barnett descendant. I believe that that as far as I can do back is gggdfather, John William Barnett who I believe was born in the 1950s, though I am not sure. I have joined the Wood County (Texas) genealogy society and am just starting to comb through the records that they have available. James P. Barnett, Jr.
Jim; I am sure you meant to say 1850 and NOt 1950's. Boy I guess was not far off abt ATTY. I just knew it was. There also is a Robert Armstron g into gen. who has something to do with writing books, and in a Colege there. I saw him when a little boy in Yakima, Wa in late 1930's as his Uncle O V Armstrong had a big Chicken place where we lived on some of his prop. We played with a cousin of his Beatrice Bell. now desceaced. If your 2rd grt gfa was b in Tx then ancestor could have been one who left SC Va , Pa or even N C as that is where many were with exception of when they came to USA from Ireland or even England into Phil Pa. Many lived there some till land was opened in other places as NC/Sc Va. One clan went into Alabanma from Va I have found. And many hundreds there. When I first started out yrs ago. There were two bro's a William and John If i remember correctly , that came into Colony states and one proclaimed to have said. " I am going into Ga and populate this new place with Barnett's ". An I beleive he did .the other one went to Florida.. I have a Barnett book done by a Gen soc that got the imfo from a collector who lived in another state and was a proffessor in a college. He died before he could do his book and left a certain amount of money to do his book for him. The imfo was left to a Gen place in a big town. Abt 5 plus yrs passed before it was able to be gone through and deciphered for a book by of all people, volunteers who weren't related, unfamiliar with it etc. Of course prices had jumped dramaticlly on many things by the time the book got to be done. The gen soc had to move and much was stored and some was sent from the researcher's estate to wrong place etc. I personaly went to the gen. place that did the book and bought 2 of them. I also went through, taking 5 days ( full) at the place going through the (remnants) (say that ,as that is what it was) 4 file cabinett dreawers full of this that etc, ( unorganised) that was left after it was decimated by cutting portions from letters that had been written on both sides etc. They should have made copies of pages and cut them apart leaveing the originals alone but didn't. This imfo was collected from 1920's to when he died ,by mail from all over USA. I was mortified at what they had done to this imfo. So the book I beleive could and prob have many mistakes in it. I plan on posting some of the imfo in my words with what I have found and researched otherwise for others to check for them selves. It just relates to one of two brothers that came into Lancastor Co Pa. Glancing through the book it has some birth dates as late as 1956 Many in 1900's to 1956. Which now isn't allowed to be publicaly done except when they have died. They have numbered references as to the sources of the imfo that is in book when it was told where source came from mentioning many books / Court Houses, wills bible records etc of which some in on file in lib. I will see what I can find for any one you have named , but some dates will help as so many John's, William's, James, Thomas's, etc. Have you gone through the censuses of Tx for any Barnett's there as some of yours . ( the BLM land records will probaly hep you as well.0, ( with 22 ch back in 1800's) could have gone to many other of the umteen Co's Tx has. I also have surnames of PUMPHREY and connections, Tx. BALDWIN in Ft Worth , Brownfield etc., Lane's, Layne's, White, Davis, Hanning, Rutherford, Hayes, etc. Many are bur in the Hall Cem in near Sherman, Howe Tx. at least almost 200 of them. This article came from a page # 14 and is incomplette in that I don't have the continued pages. Taken from Book of Gaston Co NC or SC. part with BARNETT. To men in buckskin on the edge of the wilderness, witrh plenty of land and vebnison and corn meal but acustomed to look carefully at both sides of each rare penny they possessed rent payment for lands were difficult even so. 1753, was a good yr in the number of grants allowed in the South Fork Area. WILLIAM BARNETT recieved title to lands in the Point on 31 Mar 1753. Jacob Kastner got his grant abt same time. On 30 Aug, tracts werw granted to Frederick Hambright, John and Benjamin Hardin and William Haggerty. John Armstrong, a boy volunteer during the Spanish Alarm, was old enough and solvent enough yto take up his own farm on the South Fork that same day, and James Armstrong recieved Grant on Beaver Dam Creek some miles to the west. George Rutlege , in establisjhing his claim, had to settle boundry differences with Robert Leeper. Other vexations than high rents awaites some of the Landowners. The boundry line between N C and S C had not yet been exactly agreed upon west of the Catawba, and surveyors, settlers, and officials hotly disputesd during the 1750's. The frontier farmers on both sides were called upon to pay taxes and once the Anson Co sherrif was arrested. Gov James Glenn od Sc incited the Catawba's to drive the white people out and the ernstwhile freindly Indians burned crops and killed cows and hogs. in 1743. One South Fork settler suffered in the bussiness. It was james Armstrong on Beaver Dam Creek to whose cabin door came a war party of Catawba's hot on trail of tribal enemies, theCherokees. They asked Armstrong to give them food and he gave tyhem only a small slab of corn bread. as he had warning of them coming and hastily his the rest of his food. One Indian poked around and found it and all took it and left. Several other incidenta s as such brought a investigation by N C commissioners. and they threatened the Catawba's . end of page. cont if someone out there has page 15 or so of this docunment. Hi Maxine and everyone else: If you or anyone else has all this data you have been sending on a website I would gladly link to it from the Barnett Surname DNA Project links page.. The idea of having the DNA tets is to prove or disprove any connections that are or are believed to be between various Barnett groups. If anyone has websites with Barnetts on them they would be welcome as links so others can use them to make links to their own Barnett families. So, let me know your website url and hopefully you will want to link back to ours recipically Also, if there is anyone out there named Barnett or knows a Barnett of this line it would be a good one to establish in the DNA database. We have a man from Austrailia whose ancestry is Northern Ireland. Might these two lines be one? His results will be back in a few weeks. It would be nice if we could connect a known line in the British Isles with one in the US. MIC

Amos D. BARNETT, was born 9 Sept. 1844, Randolph Co., IL. He died Nov. 16, 1911 while in Harviell, MO, but actually lived in Randolph Co., IL. Does anyone have BARNETTS in Harviell, MO that Amos might have been visiting? His parents were Martin and Jane (TAGGERT) BARNETT. Amos married Sarah Ann WELLS, 1872. They had 2 daughters: Emma and Laura (Mrs. August SANNEMAN). Any help is greatly appreciated. Peggy Riggs Kopp
Hi. Seems to be a lot of activity on this list right now so I thought I would take time to post my line again. Have been at a dead end for the last six years with this line. However, have some new more recent info to add. Samuel Barnett, b. abt. 1830, d. 1862 in Vermillion Co., IN, m. Elizabeth Tennis, b. abt. 1835, d. after 1859 and before 1862 either in OH or IN. Samuel and Elizabeth had five children: 1. Mary E. "Molly" Barnett, b. Jan. 1854 in OH, d. between 1925 and 1930 in Nevins Township, Vigo Co., IN, m. to Jeremiah Nevins on Sept. 5, 1872 in Vigo Co., IN. Jeremiah and Mary had 10 children: - George, b. 1874 - Cloval, b. 1880 - Elizabeth, b. 1883 - Lulu, b. 1885 - Grover, b. 1887 - Jesse and John (twins) b. 1889 - Cora, b. 1891 - Lillie, b. 1892 - Cecil, b. 1897 2. William Barnett, b. 1856 in IN, d. aft. 1925 in Montgomery Co., IN or Vigo Co., IN William was never married. 3. Sarah Louisa "Lou" Barnett, b. Feb. 1857, d. aft. 1925 in Vigo Co., IN, m. Perry Miller on May 3, 1886 in Vigo Co., IN 4. Margaret (not sure if this is correct first name) Barnett, b. bef. 1859, m. Benjamin Barnett in Vigo Co., IN 5. George W. Barnett, b. March 7, 1859 in Vermillion Co., IN, d. Sept. 4, 1925 in Montgomery Co., IN, m. Dec. 18. 1888 to Susanna Peterson. They had six children: - Solomon Ray, b. 1884 - James, b. 1887 - Samuel, b. 1889 - Annette Ruth, b. 1891 - Cecelia Jane, b. 1894 - Margaret, b. 1897 All we know of Samuel and Elizabeth is that in 1862 Samuel died leaving the five chidren alone. So therefore, we are only assuming that Elizabeth had previously died. The five children were each left with a different person to raise. This bit of into comes from George who told his daughter who was my grandmother. George located his four siblings later in life before he died. This is who I have found so far: WILLIAM BARNETT: Elizabeth Tennis was the daughter of Unknown Tennis and Mary Unknown. Mary Tennis was living in Vermillion Co., IN in 1870, 1880, and 1900. In 1870 and 1880 she was raising William Barnett, who was her grandson. In 1990 she was living with her daughter, Emma Bledsoe and her husband John. In 1910 and 1920 William was living with his sister Molly Nevins in Vigo Co. SARAH LOUISA BARNETT: In 1870 she was living in Vermillion Co., in the home of Henry and Margaret Rhyan. GEORGE W. BARNETT: In 1870 and 1880 he was living in Montgomery Co., IN with Hugh and Atlanta Dain Campbell. Have not found who raised Margaret or Mary E. Any info out there greatly appreciated. Linda
Robert Edward Barnett passed away Thursday. This posting is for all those who may have known him or may discover he was a part of their family tree. Copied from the leaflet given at his service: "In Memory of Robert Edward Barnett Born 6 March 1927 Hutch, Bell County, KY Died 7 August 2003 Marion, Williamson County, IL Miss Me - But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room! Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a litle - but not too long And not with your head bowed low! Remember the love that we once shared Miss me - but let me go! For this a journey we all must take And each must go alone; It's all part of the Master's Plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds Miss me - but let me go." Thank you. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
