    1. [BARNETT] Elvira and Mary Barnett
    2. poohbear
    3. This maybe the reason I can't find out who Elvira Barnett married: 1870 Census Dawson Co., Ga. page 529 Barnett Mary - age 46; female; white; farmer; 100; 100; born in Ga. Elvira - age 24; female; white; housekeeper; born in Ga. Mary - age 15; female, white; at home; born in Ga. Eveline - age 7; female, white; born in Ga. Sarah J. - age 3; female, white; born in Ga. Juliann - age 1; female, white; born in Ga. The two younger ones listed could have been Elvira's children; Mary is a little old for a 3 and 1 year old maybe or it could have been that Elvira raised them after her mother died. Dawson Co. is near Milton Co. where I find Sarah Jane in 1884 where she marries J.M.G. Rowe. This would make Sarah J. born in 1867 instead of 1860 the way it is listed on her tombstone, also it would change the date on Elvira from 1830 to 1860, but then on the 1920 Census she is listed as (Barnett, Elvira mother in Law f w 69 wid. not able to read or write, born in Ga. both Parents born in Ga.) and this would change her birth again to 1851. I believe there is a mistake on her tombstone, because there are on J.M.G. Rowe, he is listed on the 1900 Milton Co., Ga. Census as,( Rowe Joshua M. Head 34 M W M GA GA GA Farmer Grogans 1226 93A; on the 1920 Ga. Gwinnett Co. Martins Dist page 6A, as Rowe J. M Head Rent m. w. age 56 married not able to read or write, born in Ga. both Parents Born in Ga. Occupation Farmer; and on the 1930 as, Rowe, James M. Father- in-law male white age widow can not read or write.) Then on his toomstone it states Jerry Madison Rowe born 1865. I know all of the census are for him because of his wife and children are the same. Sarah Jane's dates change also on each census. Now the question is Who is Mary Barnett and who did she marry?????? Any information on this would be appraicated, and if you think I am wrong on this please let me know. Claudia

    1. [BARNETT] Wm. Barnett b 1790 VA m 1)Susannah Short m 2) Susannah White
    2. Mary Barnett
    3. Hi! With all the activity on the list lately, I thought I would post my information. I am a descendant of John Oliver Barnett, listed here as the fifth child of William Barnett and Susannah Short. John Oliver Barnett came to Texas in 1845-46 with his wife, Elizabeth Redford and her family. He became a Primitive Baptist minister and pastored a church near Brenham, Texas in his adult life. I have a great deal of documentation on him and his descendants. For a long time, I could not link John Oliver Barnett to a set of parents, and then received a great deal of information from Barbara Barnett Suddeth, a descendant of Ephraim Barnett, first child of William Barnett and Susannah Short. She said that her information was compiled for her family by a professional genealogist, but I have lost touch with her. I would like to confirm this documentation, principally the content that this same William Barnett b. 1790 had two families. I have seen the children from each family listed with one set of parents, but would like to find a source or sources that give this same William Barnett b. 1790 as the husband of first, Susannah Short and secondly, as the husband of Susannah White. I have a great deal of additional information on each set of children (marriages and children down through several generations). If anyone is a descendant of the children from either marriage of William Barnett b. 1790, I would very much like to exchange information with you. 1. WILLIAM BARNETT (???1) was born 1790 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1870 in Lawrence Co., TN. He married (1) SUSANNAH SHORT Abt. 1811 in Barren Co., Ky. 3. Barnett Story of Indians William Barnett family( line back of William,(4) John,(3), John (2), John .(1). BARNETT'S and INDIAN ESCAPE. ( Ft Pitt NC I beleive.) In year 1757 there was at work oin farm of Joseph Barnett, a small group. one was Mr Macky. News came speedily that their wives and children were all murdered at the Block House by Indians. While Mr Barnett with all possible haste was etting ready huis horse, he requestedMacky to examine his rifle see to it was ready. Everthing ready they monted horses taking a near way to the block house. A party of indians lying in ambush rose and fired at Mr Barnett in front and broke his arm. His rifle dropped and a Indian snatched it up and shot Mr Macky in head. Surgical aid summond and fixed Mar Barnett's arm. Not till the next day, did Mar Batrnett hear that his family was safe with exception as son , William Barnett then 8 or 9 yrd old. A prospect of a treaty with Indians for the return of the prisoners they had taken. Mr Barnett left family behind and sert off with Col. Grogan and abt 500 regulars to Fort Pitt. Mr Barnett had a cousin , another Joseph Barnett at Ft Pitt. remained at Ft Pitt for some time without obtaining and seeing his son. After some time his hopes had not been realized and he had been gone too long from his family and started for home Col Grogasn made all attempte to secure release of Barnett's son. Through some trader's he was able to accomplish this. Young William Barnett was brought to the Ft Pitt and was kept in strict security for arrival of his father. William was so anxious to return to the Indian way that he tried several attempts to escape and was brought back. thinking his father had been killed. His father finially arrived to Ft Pitt 9n some business same day he was brought back. His father was tasken to where he was sleeping and awaked to see him beside his bed. Untill he heard his voice and saw him he was not sure of him. WEarkly next day he was with his father and on road tro home. His treatment at hands of Indians was impairing his life and he died at early age in 1788 leaving a wife and dau, Mary weho mar to a Mr Franks. Joseph Barnett after the great sorrow of loss of his wife removed to Allegheny Co. and spent reamider of his life with a widowed dau, Margaret Barnett McClure in Miffilin TWP where he died Nov 1808 at age of 82 yrs.. Lorraine Wuth Barnett list admin ---------------- I have not posted the following in a while, so I am posting it again in the hopes someone new may have joined that has information. Thanks. Looking for ancestors, information on William Barnett b. March 20, 1825. I do not know where. His mother's maiden name may possibly have been Ballew. He married Elizabeth Caroline Allen, March 1847 in Gallatin, Illinois. Their children are: Sarah F. (1864-??), Alem (1851-??), James Zechariah (1855-1920), Mary L. (1856-??) Angeline (1859-??) Mollie Rhoda. James Zacharia married Lourella (Lilly) Tiora Gibson (1865-1956) February 1, 1883 probably in McLeansboro, Illinois. I just recently received information that Lourella's mother was Cherokee Indian but do not have her name. I do have a picture of her though. They had the following children: Eben Elben (1884-1918) Bertha E. (1885-1966) William Wilson (1889-1952) Charley Washington Barnett (1893-???) Eben (Eb) married Rosa Agnes Trammell (1884-1975) February 21, 1907 in McLeansboro, Illinois. They had the following children: Harry Dale (1908-1962) Larry (1910-1912) James R. (1913-1984) Harry is my father and I have more information on the family that I would be glad to share. Researching Barnett, Carey, Thurman, Trammell, Wrenn.
