    2. Jacque - I am of French descent but married a Barnett from Wytheville (Wythe County) VA. His father was Daniel Lee Barnett (called Lee) and his mother Lucy Ethel Anderson Barnett. Lee's father was Benjamin Anthony Barnett and his mother Cora Woodward Barnett. These two lived in Marion, VA when I married into the family and spelled their last name Barnette. Lee owned funeral home in Wytheville for many many years. He and Ethel had 5 children. I have not tried to research these Barnetts as yet. Noelie

    1. [BARNETT] BARNETT, Newark, NJ
    2. Pierce-Ryan
    3. I am interested in two sets of BARNETTs living in the Newark area. The first was around 1800-1820. Possible first names are Will/William, David, and John. The second family moved there about 1840 from Massachusetts. Will BARNETTand Nancy Wheeler BARNETT were the parents, with children Warren, Henry, Anna, William, and George. By 1850, William, the father, was gone (died?), leaving Nancy as head of household in the 1850 census. Does anyone connect with these folks? Thanks. Ted

    2. Maxine and Others: I am listing our Barnett ancestors below as you requested, Maxine, and hoping some other folks may have a connection. There are some discrepancies on this, and I am now working on it to try to get it straightened out. Any assistance will be appreciated. Someone did write some time back and I lost that e-mail as to what it was. Hope to resolve this because I am almost finished with our web site for all of the surnames we have researched and Barnett is one of those trees that will be on the site. Thanks for any help. 1. [BARNETT] DNA Page Update
    2. Mic Barnette
    3. Hello Everyone: I have worked on the BARNETT DNA SURNAME PROJECT website this weekend. I fixed the problem with the chart so everyone can see the marker results on the Results and Anaysis Page.. There is a link on that page to an article explaining how to understand the results. I would suggest everyone read that article. We have 4 particpant results posted, one expected any day and a couple more expected after a few more weeks. As I get the lineages of each participant they are listed on the Participants' page. There is also a page for associated surnames and associated place names for each participant. Those working on various Barnett families will want to check these pages out, too. MIC

    3. I am the administrator of the Barnett Surname DNA Project. One of our participants believes he is descended from a Uriah. His information is on our website at http://micbarnette.bravepages.com Click on DNA then on Participant 005 I just realized the chart of comparative markers is not referenced on th epage. I will take care of this later this week. You might visit today and pay a return visit later in the week. We are expecting another set of results this week too. We would appreciate any additional information anyone has on Uriah or on any other nacestor in the test group. Also, if you are a male with the surname Barnett you might want to test in this group. As it now stands the participant who believes he descends from Uriah is the only one in our test group with his DNA markers. The others in the test group do not match any of the others. 1. [BARNETT] John William Barnett b. 1800 N.C. & Zilpha Walpole b. 1802 Georgia
    2. John and June Schaub
    3. It has been awhile since I posted a query. Going over old notes & new tips.....so want to ask again in hopes of making a connection. Found at the Family History Center in Mesa, Arizona Film # 2,034,798 John William Barnett b. Nov. 29, 1800 in N.C. married 1823 in Georgia to Zilpha/or Zilphia Warpole (maybe spelled Walpole) she was on film # 2,034,426 His parents were listed: father John Barnett & his mother Nancy Ann. In every census we have seen........John W. Barnett is listed as born in Georgia the same as his wife. We know his one brother Joseph Barnett lists his birthplace as S.C. on the census reports. These brothers and their families were located in Pine Springs, Lauderdale Co., Mississippi in 1840 and 1850........then they all moved to San Saba Co., Texas where they settled the town of Simpson Creek. There is a Texas State Historical marker 4 miles outside San Saba, Texas with a tribute to John Barnett and his Hamrick sons-in-law. Today my husband was reading a new book, 'Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaacson', and on page 270 it refers to brothers Thomas and Richard Walpole in London, England. The year was 1769 and "Benjamin Franklin helped organize a consorteum so powerful that he was convinced it would be able to outmaneuver Lord Hillsborough. The Grand Ohio Company, as it was named, included a collection some of London's richest and most prominent names, most notably Thomas and Richard Walpole. For a while, it seemed the group, known as the Walpole Company, was destined for success. But in the summer of 1770, Hillsborough managed to have the scheme tabled for more study, etc. etc." In our family lore, there were references to Zilphia Walpole (other spelling Zilpha Warpole) being from the House of Walpole in England.....so I am hoping to make the link. Thanks for any and all help, June Hamrick Schaub Flagstaff, Arizona

    1. [BARNETT] Barnett DNA Surname Project Progress
    2. Mic Barnette
    3. Hi Everyone: Results for 4 participants have been received and posted on the Project website at http://micbarnette.bravepages.com Just click on the DNA Project link. The results for two more participants is pending. To see the results click on the results page. To see the lineages of the participants click on the pages for each participant. The most recent results received were for Participant number 5. Initially this participant went back to James Newton Barnett of Walker County, AL. Recent census work potentially extends that lineage back several generations to Uriah Barnett and wife Kessiah both of whom were born in South Carolina in the mid to late 1780's. There is a David (or Daniel) Barnett who is of the age (born about 1750-1760) to have been Uriah's father near him in Benton (now Calhoun) County, AL in the 1840 census. Anyone with any knowledge of this family is urged to contact me at mic@barnettesbooks.com . Participant number 5 has no relationship what so ever to the other three participants whose results were previously received. The first three have South Carolina and Virginia roots. While their ancestry has not been traced to a common ancestor they all three relate. If you have Barnett ancestry please try to support the project. If you are a male with the surname Barnett you can participate in the testing. If you are a woman or descend from a Barnett but do not carry the surname you can participate by finding someone in your own family that still carries the Barnett surname and ask them to participate in the testing. You can also financially sponsor someone in your family so the person participating does not pay out the money or as much money when you will benefit from that person taking the test. Also on the Barnette DNA Project website is the 1790 Census for all extant states. Potentially the people listed in these censuses would make great links for DNA testing. On the website we also have a Barnett Links Page. If you have a website with data about any Barnett family please let us know about your site and we will link to it. We would also appreciate anyone wishing to do so making a link from your website to ours. If you have any questions about testing, the website or anything else please feel free to contact me, MIC
