Dear All I would like to extend to all list members my best wishes for the year ahead. I know that some of you have made family connections through the Barnett list during 2003, which is always a thrill, and I hope that many more have that joy in the year ahead. From time to time it is relevant to remind all list members of the a couple of things that will ensure that we all get the best use out of the list. Firstly, if you cease getting postings from the list check that you haven't exceeded your quota as set by your ISP. This is a fairly common problem and means that you may miss out on valuable contacts. If you are going away and will be unable to collect you email consider unsubscribing from the list whilst away and the subscribe again on your return. Check the archives for items that were posted in your absence so that you don't miss any postings that may have been important for you. From time to time items get posted to the list that are not related to family history or stray outside of good taste. By all means maintain a dialogue with your list buddies but do ensure that you correctly address emails so that items best dealt with between two parties do not find their way onto the list. I know how easy it is for an email address to be completed on your behalf by the system only to realised after pressing the send button that it was not the email address intended. While not encouraging "stray" postings, please remember that we all make mistakes from time to time. If you are concerned about items posted to the list please contact me in the first instance before going public. Equally, if you inadvertently post something that you did not intend to post an "oops ... sorry" message may be helpful so that list members realise that your posting occurred in error. I'm still hunting for Barnett relatives in England. I have certainly made some progress this year and hope to track down more of the missing ones in the next 12 months. In the meantime, December 26 is the 200th anniversary of the death of my great, great, great, great, great grandfather, Thomas Barnett. He died at Remenham, Berkshire, England where he had farmed for more than half a century. He is buried in the Remenham churchyard with a number of other Barnett family members. If anyone out there has any connection with the Remenham Barnetts I would love to hear from you. Happy family hunting Lorraine Wuth Barnett list admin

I enjoy hearing from everyone, but I am no help with any family but the one that settled in Scotland County, MO. I am getting questions about Barnett's that lived all over Missouri. I know that many Barnett families lived in MO at one time. Some came from Kentucky, some came from the south. There were three different Barnett families in Scotland County, MO at the time that our John came to MO. None of them were known to be related to our family. I know that almost all of our Barnett relatives lived and died in Scotland County Missouri and or Van Buren County Iowa. One daughter I believe, went to Kansas and her ancestor's are now in Idaho. William Barnett's son came to Missouri and settled in the one spot. That is within a mile of the Iowa Missouri border. My question was about William Barnett who married Sarah Hart. They lived out their lives in PA. They never went to Missouri. Is it ok to repeat my information???? William Barnett, born about 1769 somewhere and died Aug. 18, 1838 in Buffalo Township, Armstrong Co. PA. He was married to Sara Hart. She may have been born in 1779 somewhere and died Jan. 6, 1852 in Armstrong Co. PA. They bought land probably at a coffee house in Philadelphia, traveled over the mountains to Armstrong County PA, and lived there for the rest of their lives according to oral family history. Their oldest daughter or two may have made the trip with them; Mary Anne (Polly) and Anne. We have some information on their children and can trace son, John who was born in PA and took the train straight to Scotland County, MO, to Mark Hopkins, to William Herbert to Marion Clark to me but are unable to learn where William and Sarah lived before Armstrong County. William's mother must have been in contact with William and Sarah as she is buried in Cowan Cemetery, but the stone isn't clear enough to read. William may have been married beforehe came to Armstrong County. In his will William left money to two sons, James and William, who are unmentioned and did not seem to be known by the children he raised in Armstrong County. I would really like to get in touch with anyone from this family or anyone who has any information about this family. I am willing to share information about the members of the family that moved to Scotland County, MO, and some who are now living in Iowa. I do not have much proof, but do have history from older family members and have been to the gravesites and original family farm at Azen, MO. Sorry, I am not aware of a Theophilus in this branch of the Barnett family. We did, however, have some other quaint names, like Lycurkus Hannibal, Marcelina Arena, and Chrystaline Parthenia. Any Barnetts born in Perry Co AL likely come off the Spartaburg, SC Barnetts. You can prove it with DNA testing. Those of Spartanburg, SC and Perry Co, AL are a partof my own Barnett clan. Hi - the family is probably the same lineage but not the same person. They split in SC and some went south (to Alabama and Louisianna and Texas) and some went west (to Kentucky and Missouri and Indiana and Kansas). ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Melissa LaTour" <melissalatour@perigee.net> Reply-To: BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com To: BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [BARNETT] William Barnett and Sarah Hart Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2003 11:24:46 -0500 Frank, do you know anything about where your John Thomas Barnett came from or who his parents were? Do you know the parents of John Thomas Barnett? Because my William Newton Barnett was born in Hickory County, Mo in 1855. His father, Riley Barnett, was born in KY and died in IN. This actually sounds like it could be the same family, as Hickory County is near Knob Knoster (which is where my youngest daughter was born). ----Original Message Follows---- From: "Frank Cooper" <biged@umacs.net> Reply-To: BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com To: BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BARNETT] William Barnett and Sarah Hart Date: Mon, 17 Nov 2003 11:36:01 -0600 Jane - John Thomas and Laura Etta MILLER Barnett were parents to 13 children: Myrtle May - b. 9 Feb 1880, Linn Co., KS Orville Thomas - b. 1 July, 1881, Linn Co., KS James Frederick - b. 26 Jun 1883, Marshall Co., IA Vinnie Dull - b. 5 ug 1885, Dawes Co., NE Harry Clay - b. 27 Oct 1886, Dawes Co., NE Elsie Ora - b. 26 Feb 1889, Dawes Co., NE John Leslie - b. 24 May 1890, Dawes Co., NE Ina Pearl - b. 13 Sep 1893, DeKalb Co., MO Lacy Lafayette - b. 3 Aug 1895, DeKalb Co., MO Ettie Jane & Nettie Mary (twins) b. 28 Nov 1899, Polk Co., MO Gladys Bernice & Grace Beatrice (twins) b. 19 Sep 1905, Marion Co., IA Grace was my mother, youngest and last one to pass away in January, 1994. I have much more information on this family. If there is a connection, I'll be really happy to share it with anyone. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jbart1@flash.net> To: <BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 16, 2003 7:53 AM Subject: Re: [BARNETT] William Barnett and Sarah Hart > Frank, > Can you list the progeny of Laura Etta Miller and John Thomas Barnett--I think I may have a connect with these Barnetts! > Thanks, > Jane Barnett Bartosiewicz > > Frank Cooper <biged@umacs.net> wrote: > There are several Barnetts buried in the Mound Grove Cemetery on North > River Blvd. in Independence, MO, as well as several buried in the Buckner > Cemetery in Buckner, MO just East of Independence.
