Carolyn, My John BARNETT b. 1 Sept. 1772, was in Buncombe Co. NC by 1800 we think. He remained there until late in life when he returned to GA/SC. There is no Berry that I have found in our line. It appears that David BARNETT of Hamburg SC (now North Augusta SC) and Augusta GA was the father of our John BARNETT. What are some of the other family names that are related to the BARNETTs? I have just come across a Martha (PYRON) b. 26 Apr. 1779 that I strongly feel is John BARNETT'S wife. Can I contact the distant cousin researching this line that lives in Georgia, if what is his contact information? Lived in Franklin, St Clair and Etowah (lastly, I think). Little or no info in my possession on this family. I descend from Holly Nathan and Mary Jane Wood. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Yes, I've considered that---but so far haven't found anything. He married Mary Worley Linville, but most researchers think that was his second marriage. Shirley

Hi Everyone: The website has been updated both esthetically and with new information. http://micbarnette.bravepages.com/_barnett_dna_project.html A couple results were reported this week. The two Barneys are unrelated which was a surprise to them. We got some other results this week and the lineages of a couple participants we did not have last week. Be sure to check out the Results and Analysis page. It has the markers for each participant whose results have been returned. In addition on that same page is a link to a page that shows the genetic distance between each of the participants. All the changes made and posted last week on the web evidently were not saved on the hard drive and had to be recreated on the hard drive again this weekend. If you see any mistakes on your lineages, results or anything else let me know about it so I can correct it. Thanks to all who are participants in the test group. And thanks to the others out there who write and share information. If anyone has a Barnett website not listed on our webpage please let me know about it so I can link to it. Mark Barnett has seet up a Forum where Barnett researchers can go and post messages, questions and leave information that can be helpful to other Barnett researchers. The forum is located at http://www.barnettfamilytree.com/forum/ Family Tree DNA has set up a new free website called Y-Search. It is a place anyone who has taken a DNA test can go to post their results no matter which company provided the test. I have posted my results there and I recomend others do the same. Others can do some searches online about various surnames. http://www.ysearch.org/ If you are a male Barnett or know one or are related to one please consider joining or having your friend/realtive join the group. It would be great if we could get people descended from all the various Barnett lines to take the test. For one I would like to see a member of the Bernard family descended from Richard Bernard and Anna Corderoy/Cordray who came to Virginia abou 1642 or so take the test. During the 1970's a Barnett researcher claimed descent from this Bernard family. While it is plausible I have never been able to prove or disprove the lineage. Now that DNA is here the logical way would be to have a descendant take the test. Also there is a family of Barnett Cherokees descended from a Barnard family in Georgia. It would be good to include them in our test. For those of you searching for Barnett ancestors you might use the censuses from 1790 posted o n our Barnett DNA website. While the censuses do not list wives and children of the head of household it does list a Barnett in a given place for a specific time frame. MIC
Apparently I left off the URL for the DNA website. Here it is: http://micbarnette.bravepages.com/_barnett_dna_project.html
Hi Everyone: The Barnett Family Surname DNA Project Webpage has been updated. We now have 16 participants. About 10 have their results posted and the others are waiting for their results to be returned. The website has been reworked and some of the participants have been renumbered but their information remains the same. Currently there are two groups dominating-one from Virginia to Georgia and the Carolinas, the other from Pennsylvania to Mecklenburg, NC. There are several others with no matches. With all the Barnetts that were in the US in the 1850 census I know this is just a drop in the bucket. We also have two Barneys in the group. The results for one have been returned and we are waiting on teh results for the second. The Results page has the marker information and there is a genetic distance comparison page. There is a short write up on each family , namly the lineage of the participant from the ancestor down to the participant. For the sake of not giving out personal information living persons dates, names and other information has been abreviated to prevent identity theives from having too much information. The site includes an email contact for each participant shoudl someone wish to contact the person. Mark Barnett has set up a Barnett Forum where people can discuss what is going on on the DNA website or in their research. Hopefully this will help organize families on the DNA program and not detract from thie Barnett Mailing Group on Rootsweb. The website for the new forum is at http://www.barnettfamilytree.com/forum/ If you are a male Barnett, know one or are related to one or researching one I hope you will participate or find a Barnett to sponsor in the Barnett Surname DNA Project. The more we have in the group the more we can connect and learn more about the various Barnett families in the US and the World. I suggest people who are not now surnamed Barnett but are researching the name should try to find someone still carrying the name and sponsor them in the project. The best way to know how your line fits in is to find someone in your own line to take the test. The tests are not real expensive but they are not just coffee money either. By pooling together we can help ourselves by helping to defray the cost for someone who can take the test. MIC

I got no respond about Berry barnett possibily being martha barnetts father i was just wondering why we have had so little traffic on the Barnett line for FEburary?
Hi marsha I don't know if this could help my ggggrandfather was Berry W. Barnett I am hoping to find out that his father was Elijah Barnett. Berry W. had a daughter Martha born abt. 1844 in GA. Although he did live out his last yeaars in Ala. on the 1880 census he was in Ala. in Etwoah county. I know in 1860 he had 8 children at home one could would have been Martha beings she was only 16 years old then. But in 1860 they were in Polk county Ga. If Elijah lived there he would have been her grandfather which was very common for elderly parents to live with their children. But I think Elijah would have been abt. 84 then. Mic Barnette who writes a genealogy column in the Houston Chronicle put me on to Elijah Barnett possibly being Berry W.'s father. Carolyn Stephenson
I was wondering if anyone out there knows who Elijah Barnett born Sept 12 1776 children were? He lived in Pickens county S.C. I am trying to maybe make a tie to him being my Berry W. Barnetts father. Carolyn
Hi, I saw your ? about Elijah Barnett, I am searching for the Parents of Martha Barnett who married Ashley Aldridge in Fayette Co. or Walker Co. Al. in about the late 1860's or in the 1870's I found a family group in this area in I believe the 1850's census, in Fayette or Walker co. Al. the name for the head of house was Elihue Barnette, I don't recall the wife's name but he had several children and one was a girl named Martha about the right age for my GrandMother, I think his name may have been misspelled and it may have been Elijah , he was stated as being 64 or so in age and born in SC if you think this may have been the one your looking for email me , Marsha
HI JACKIE, MY HUSBAND'S PEOPLE ARE BARNETT'S BUT NOT THAT FAR SOUTH. SORRY I CAN'T HELP YOU OUT. GOOD LUCK. JANEAN
