According to the information that I have, there was two Sprat ladies that married Barnett brothers. Several members of my Barnett family moved to Texas and Oklahoma after the Civil War. My line came from Bradley County, Tennessee to Whitfield County, Georgia and on to Fannin County,Texas and then into Bryan County, Oklahoma. My Great Great Grandfather John Wilson Barnett is buried in Bryan County, Oklahoma. Wanda Ellis wellis@redriverok.com
These would have been from North Carolina, possibly Mecklenburg, NC. Wanda Ellis wellis@redriverok.com
I know that, but I don't have one. All of uncles an great uncles are gone. My Grandmother was an only child. Her mother had some brothers, but they are all gone and so are their mail children. Wanda Ellis wellis@redriverok.com
Wanda - You just need to find a male cousin with the Barnett last name who would be willing to do the DNA test. The Barnett DNA project is for males. I had my brother do the test. Is there anyone you can find from the same Barnett - an uncle or cousin? Wanda; That may have been me as I did post the imfo(Genealogiclay) of a number of wills I have from NC and SC on Barnett's. They would be in archived Barnett site messages on the Barnett Board I do believe. So if you missed them try the Barnett message board in abt the tie you have the other's copied - or +. I am from a Thomas Barnett b abt 1730 in Londonderry Ire. was in NC . His son Thomas Barnett mar Martha Patrick, a son William mar Rhoda Campbell. they went from York Co SC where 3 generations born with a son Robert Sylvanus Armstrong Barnett to Tn then to Mo then to Grayson Co Tx in abt and by 1852. William and wife Rhoda both died in Tx. Wm's bro , Alexander mar to Rachael Adams in York Co SC. Barnett's in Londonderry Ire had come from Scotland. before that from England . All moves because of religeous persecution. A William Barnett and Thomas Sprat went from Ire in abt 1741 ( some said abt 1730 but correct record says 1741 and one of the children was b on the trip.) to Pa. Thomas had mar a Barnett girl in Ire.. I also saw a William Barnett mar a Sprat( Mary or Ann maybe). It also said that they were connected to mine above in Ire. I believe that my line descends from William Barnett and Mary Spratt through a son William Barnett who married Mary Heaslett. (I know that I descend from William and Mary Heaslett) I have information that tells me William Barnett was first married to Mary Spratt, she died and he married a Margaret. Sometime ago someone sent out Will for several Barnetts and I printed out most of them. However, I missed the one on William where he supposedly mentions his wife Margaret and children from both wives his property. Does anyone have and actual copy of that Will that they would be able to send to me? I would even be delighted to receive a typed copy. I would just like to read it. I would be happy to pay for postage and for cost of copies. I have been able to provide all documents necessary to get into DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution on the William Barnett and Mary Heaslett line. I would just like to take this family back another generation. For two generations in my family I have only women in my direct line, it is my understanding that it would not work for DNA testing. I believe that the 0008 DNA will connect to William and Mary Heaslett. I have documents that shows me that much. Any help would be appreciated. Wanda Ellis wellis@redriverok.com
my grand father was born in West Ham, London 5 Sep 1899. His father Joseph Edward Barnett and mother Emily Mary Steele are both buried in Woodgrange Park Cemetary, London with emily being buried Feb 1943. Hope this is of some help. Sharon.
Melissa I also am looking for a family in Georgia. my ggggrandfather Berry W. Barnett was b. in S.C. in 1813 but lived his life in GA. He married martha ? in 1833 had 9 or 10 children. the last I found him was 1880 census in Etowah co.Ala. I don't know if he died there or somewhere else or when he died. Carolyn
just wondering if anyone is doing searches for barnett's in england. I've been trying to get some feedback but no one seems to be into england. I'm looking for Joseph Edward Barnett who married Emily Steele and had 2 sons, 2 daughters around 1899 to 1905. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
Hi Sharon. We are at least two! You don't give a location? I'm interested in the BARNETTs from Frome, Somerset: Susannah Louisa BARNETT born 19 April 1847 in Coal Ash Walk, Frome, father Joseph James BARNETT, gfather Thomas BARNETT (chr. June 28, 1806), ggfather Thomas BARNETT. Raymond, in France
Melissa - have you found this family on any census? I would start looking in the 1820 census for a young family with close to the right # of children - remember, children did die between censuses, so look for those especially that have children that fit who you do know. I would even look in the Carolinas in the early census info. If you find a family that looks like it could fit - research it, see where they go and who they end up being. So often the confirmation comes not from finding the info you are looking for but by eliminating every other possibility. It is so much fun. Well, while everybody is jumping in I'll post my brick wall. I am looking for a Barnett male who married a woman named Francis (or Frances, I've seen it spelled both ways, but I'm sure it was a woman in each case). I have the following info on Unknown Barnett and his family: 1. Unknown BARNETT (b. probably GA, d. between 1835 and 1850, probably AL) sp: Francis (b.Abt 1795;d.Aft 1870) 2. Levi Marion BARNETT (b.7 Sep 1835-Perry Co.,AL;d.7 Dec 1919-Perry Co. AL) sp: Margaret Ann MORRISON (b.28 Jul 1840-Cowpens,Bibb Co.,AL;m.24 Feb 1859;d.8 Dec 1933-Perry Co. AL) 2. Steven Thomas BARNETT (b.1821-GA;d.1862) sp: Catharine COLBURN (b.Abt 1822-SC) 2. Delaney BARNETT (b.Abt 1818-Georgia;d.1860/1870-Hale County,AL?) sp: David COLBURN (b.Abt 1816-South Carolina;m.11 Jan 1838;d.29 Jun 1862-Tupelo,Lee County,MS) 2. William BARNETT , Sr. (b.1823-Georgia) sp: Elizabeth MORRISON (b.Aug 1828-Florida;m.1847;d.1852) Levi and Margaret Morrison Barnett were my gg grandparents. Anyone familiar with this family or know a Barnett family from Georgia that would be likely as the origin for my unknown? Hi! This is my brick wall. I first submitted this information to the list in August of 2003 and thought I would try again. I am a descendant of John Oliver Barnett, listed here as the fifth child of William Barnett and Susannah Short. John Oliver Barnett came to Texas in 1845-46 with his wife, Elizabeth Redford and her family. He became a Primitive Baptist minister and pastored a church near Brenham, Texas in his adult life. I have a great deal of documentation on him and his descendants. For a long time, I could not link John Oliver Barnett to a set of parents, and then received a great deal of information from Barbara Barnett Suddeth, a descendant of Ephraim Barnett, first child of William Barnett and Susannah Short. She said that her information was compiled for her family by a professional genealogist, but I have lost touch with her. I would like to confirm this documentation, principally the content that this same William Barnett b. 1790 had two families. I have seen the children from each family listed with one set of parents, but would like to find a source or sources that give this same William Barnett b. 1790 as the husband of first, Susannah Short and secondly, as the husband of Susannah White. I have a great deal of additional information on each set of children (marriages and children down through several generations). If anyone is a descendant of the children from either marriage of William Barnett b. 1790, I would very much like to exchange information with you. 1. WILLIAM BARNETT (???1) was born 1790 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1870 in Lawrence Co., TN. He married (1) SUSANNAH SHORT Abt. 1811 in Barren Co., Ky. She was born April 01, 1792 in Virginia, and died July 08, 1833 in Lawrence Co., TN. He married (2) SUSANNAH WHITE Abt. 1835. She was born Abt. 1816 in Tennessee. Notes for WILLIAM BARNETT: The father of William Barnett is thought to be Absoleum Barnett. Notes for SUSANNAH SHORT: The parents of Susannah Short are thought to be: Thomas Short, b. abt. 1751 and Elizabeth ???, b. abt. 1755. Children of WILLIAM BARNETT and SUSANNAH SHORT are: 2. i. My ggggrandfather Berry W. Barnett had a son named John but I have his birth at cira 1857.in Georgia I know that his father Berry W. also lived in Etowah co Ala. I don't know how long he lived there but he was there in 1880 census. Carolyn Stephenson
Joe I am sure my cousin won't mind at all he could use any help you could give His e-mail is murilm@mindspring.com he has much more information than me he has been at this much longer. I don't have any info further back than Berry W. he is our brick wall we would love to find out who his parents were also what his wife Martha's maiden name was I have some limited info from him on. I do know that my cousin thinks that a Adam Barnett b. cira 1799 could be his older brother. Do you have any knowledge of Elijah Barnett bornSept. 12 1776? I personally have wondered if this could have been my Berry W.'s father I know there are a few including John in Pickens ,Pendleton co. S.C. that would be in that time range to have been his father. Please let me know what Muril has to say. Carolyn
I am looking for any info on William D. "Will" Barnett found in the 1860 and 1870 Census of Collin County, Texas, Highland Post Office. He was born about 1824 in Georgia. He married Elizabeth E. "Eveline" Russell born about 1840 in Alabama or Tennessee. They were married December 31, 1857 in Collin County, Texas. Daughter Arminda Barnett was born about 1859 in Texas and died May 30, 1930 in Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico. Arminda was my great grandmother. Son Oliver Crownall Barnett was born July 21, 1879 in Arkansas and died February 6, 1939 in Farmersville, Collin County, Texas. Oliver married Sarah Ellen Gaddy born September 12, 1887 in Farmersville and died October 26, 1974 in Collin County, Texas. They were married November 20, 1903 in Farmersville, Collin County, Texas. They had one son Oliver Thomas Barnett born April 23, 1909 and died August 31, 1964 in Dallas County, Texas. This is all I have on this family. I have nothing else. I would appreciate any help about this family! Thank you! Joyce Dobler joyce@doblers.com
