    2. Okay - so what does the mutations indicate - that you are less related than you thought at first? Or could the mutations be some weird influence from the female side - therefore you are still as closely related as you first thought? Ohhhh - I am getting confused - and sooo ready to believe any Barnett related to me is a mutant - I know my brothers and sons too well, you see! 1. New Results Barnett DNA Project
    2. Mic Barnette
    3. Hi Everyone: As you know several of the participants in the Barnett DNA Project have been upgrading from 25 to 37 markers. Fo me this has been rather eye opening. I just got my results last night. In Group 2 there are three particpants (10943/17010/19009) matching one another 12 for 12 and 25 for 25. Two of them (10943/17010) have upgraded to the 37 marker test group and both still match identically-37 for 37. I am in Group 1, a descendant of John Barnett of Goochland County, Virginia who died there in 1756. On the 12 marker test I (9386) matched 5 other participants (10391/10518/15986/16597/16642) 12 for 12. 12937 matches 9 for 12 17652 matches 8 for 12 All five participants matching me 12 for 12 have taken the 25 marker test. Of those five only three (10518/15986/16642) match me 25 for 25. 10391 matches me with 1 step mutation thus 24 for 25 16597 matches me with 2 step mutations. Thus 23 for 25 12937 matches 19 for 25 17652 matches 19 for 25 Of those five named above, the results for two have been returned on the 37 marker test. None match me exactly 10391 still matches me with 1 step mutation at 36 for 37 15986 now matches me with a 2 step mutation at 35 for 37 17652 matches 23 for 37 For those who have matched anyone else and not upgraded your test to 37 you might wish to do so now. It takes a couple hours for me to update the website. I will get to it as quickly as I can. It may be this weekend or possibly next week. This is the reason I am sending out this note for the update. Sorry. As usual, I make an appeal to anyone (males) still named Barnett to join the group and to the females to sponsor a male Barnett of their choice. Again I will suggest people not named Barnett that can find one in your family willing to take the test to pool your money and split the cost among you and not to let the man pay to have his test taken, particularly if he is not into genealogy. On a personal side I would love to see more people related to me take the test. We need to determine who and how we relate. Then we need other Barnetts that can match those not yet matching anyone else. MIC

    1. Re: [BARNETT] FANNY BARNETT + CHARLES JOHN WHITE [1885]
    2. Mic Barnette
    3. Jim: Go to http://familysearch.org this is the Mormon website. Do a search for Barnetts in the 1881 English census for IOW. I found your Fanny living with her brother James in Whippingham, Hampshire. It says she was born in West Cowes, Hampshire. I guess you will have to borrow the 1871 census from the Mormons or someone to locate her that year. She would then be in the household of her parents. Since you have her birth and death dates you can get both her birth and death certificates. Both would have her parents names listed.. In the US it is very common to be able to locate obituaries in the newspapers, particulaly in the Victorian age. I assume the English also published obituaries but since I have never done English research I am only guessing. 1. Re: The Barnett Cemetery Rural Academy Lane
    2. Thank You John & Retta. I have waited a long time for that cemetery to come up. Only one small item of interest. That was actually the Benjamin Denney cemetery. William was his son, and Lemuel Barnett was a son-in-law. Benjamin gave Lemuel the right to be buried there, and to have his children buried there. It's about 99% certain that Benjamin, Kerrenhappuck & Keren's sister, Agnes TAylor are all buried in that cemetery - probably graves marked by one of the many fieldstones there. Did you know that there is another Barnett gravesite in that same area - has two graves within a stone wall - I think they are Albert Barnett's parents. > Pictures by John Waggoner Jr. > Copied by Retta Waggoner June 6, 2004 > Not listed in Smith County Cemetery books. > > Thanks John & Retta! > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/cempics/barnettrualcem.htm > > Charlie >

    2. Again I am searching for my ggggrandfather Berry W. or B.W. Barnett. I seen on the census he just had B.W. Barnett he was born abt. 1813 somewhere in South Carolina. He married a Martha ? in 1833. Went to Georgia where his first child my gggrandfather Matthew Abraham was born in 1834 he lived his life in Polk, Cherokee, Paulding counties of Georgia most of his life the last time I found him was 1880 census in Etowah county Alabama it went cold from there. Although I have reason to think maybe he went to Jackson county Mississippi . I am trying to find who his parents were and where and when he died and is buried. Carolyn Stephenson

    2. Mic Barnette
    3. Hi Everyone: The Barnett Surname DNA Project now has 18 participants. The website has been updated with new results data. Several participants have upgraded to the 37 marker test. The members of Group II recently had their results scutinized by the geneticists and found they each have an unusual feature that makes them definitely related. You may read the note from the Results Page. If you are a male Barnett and interested in joining the test group you may do so through the website or send me an email. If you are not a male Barnett we encouarge you to locate one in your family and support him financially in taking the test. MIC

    1. Barnett DNA Website Update
    2. Mic Barnette
    3. Hi Everyone: The Barnett DNA Website at http://micbarnette.bravepages.com been updated. Go to the DNA Page. Visit the Results Page; Genetic Distance Chart; Participants Page; Associated Place and Associated Surnames Page. If you have a Barnett or Barney website not on our links page, please send it to us. The lineage has been added for a participant (0017) descending from Ezekial Barnett who was born about 1777 in SC and moved by 1835 to Lauderdale County, AL where he died in 1871. Ezekiel's wife was Olive. The marker results for this participant have not been returned and will be added to the website when the results are received. In addition the 37 marker results for two others have been added. We now have 37 marker results for three participants and several in the process of being upgraded. The price for the 12 marker test is $99; the 25 marker test $169 and the 37 marker test $229. The price to upgrade from a 12 to 25 marker test is $90; 12 to 37 markers $149 and from 25 to 37 $58. As a group we get discounts otherwise the price would be higher. We suggest going for the 25 or better yet the 37 marker test. The 12 marker test yeilds a lot of false connections that disappear when the test has been refined to 25 or 37 markers. If you are a male with the surname Barnett you owe it to yourself and your family to participate in the testing. Assuming you are into genealogy it will tell you if you are on the right track in your genealogical research or not. The results in our test group have surprised us several times already. The results have verified researchers were correct in their research and on the reverse, it has shown their research to be faulty. At this point the DNA testing will not tell one who their exact ancestor is. It will only verify there is a common ancestor or there is not one. The more markers tested will help define how close the common ancestor is from someone else being tested. If you are a female or a Barnett descendant with a surname other than Barnett you might search about in your family for a male who still carries the Barnett surname. You may have to convince him of the benefits of DNA testing. For those types of points you can visit our website or the Family Tree DNA website at http://www.familytreedna.com . If you do find a male surnamed Barnett in your family, particularly if they are not heavily into genealogy, you might want to either offer to pay for the test or better yet get a group of other family members together and pool your resources to have the person tested. A number of years ago I checked out every Barnett family in the United States on the 1790-1850 US census. I found Barnetts from every country in the world as well as every state in the US. There is no way all those people were related. Our website is reflective of this premise. Of 17 participants we have at least 6 different Barnett lines, plus two Barney family lines represented in our test group. Of the thousands of people named Barnett we have only begun our search. So, as I stated above, we would love to have your Barnett,(Barnette, Barnet, Barney, Barnard, Bernard, or any other spelling) family represented in our test group. If you have any questions not answered on the website please feel free to contact me. MIC
