    3. Julian, Jackson Barnett is my great-great-great half-uncle. We have pictures of him dressed in his fur coat, with cigar in hand. Directing traffic seemed one of his favorite past times. His oil wells have dried up, and the money is long gone. But his story continues to intrigue people. Your memory is good. He was Creek, however, and not Osage. My great-grandfather, Jimmy was one of the receipents of his estate, but died before ever seeing much money. Thanks for sharing your experience with him. 1. MY LINE
    2. With all this chatter on the list I might as well throw my line in like several others have done and see if anyone has my Barnetts in their files. As with others recently, Indian blood has long been accredited to this Barnett line, originating from West Virginia. Here is a quote from a cousin of mine on John Sanford Barnett: "John Sanford Barnett, his brothers Isaac and Thomas, were taken before the Lewis County, West Virginia Court and charged with disturbing the peace-assault and battery- and disturbing a church meeting." My cousin seems to wonder if they were arguing in the church about their Indian Blood. __________________________________________________________ Descendants of John Sanford BARNETT 1 John Sanford BARNETT 1805 - 1880 .. +Mary Ann BAILES 1808 - 1882 ......... 2 Lycurges Hannibal BARNETT 1832 - 1881 ............. +Peninah KELLY Abt 1832 - ......... 2 Orlando BARNETT 1834 - 1854 ......... 2 Timandra BARNETT Abt 1836 - 1856 ............. +George Heinriech Besco Abt 1836 - ......... 2 Belvidere BARNETT Abt 1838 - ............. +Edward HERRON Abt 1838 - ......... *2nd Husband of Belvidere BARNETT: ............. +Matthew SPARKS Abt 1838 - ......... 2 Octavia Jane BARNETT 1839 - 1901 ............. +Robert BENNETT Abt 1839 - ......... *2nd Husband of Octavia Jane BARNETT: ............. +James Sipes Abt 1839 - .................... 3 John Richard Sipes Unknown - ......... 2 Jerushia Ellen BARNETT 1841 - 1898 ............. +Thomas Benton WHITSELL Abt 1841 - ......... 2 Mary Ann BARNETT 1843 - 1917 ............. +Thomas Benton WHITSELL Abt 1843 - ......... 2 Francis Royer BARNETT 1845 - 1923 ............. +Pheobe Jane DOBSON Abt 1845 - ......... 2 John Eden BARNETT 1849 - 1925 ............. +Lovica Isabel Underwood 1851 - 1943 .................... 3 Hannibal Grant BARNETT 1868 - 1962 ........................ +Carrie June RUGGLES Abt 1868 - .................... 3 Walter Warren BARNETT 1871 - 1878 .................... 3 William Frederick BARNETT 1874 - 1878 .................... 3 John Myrl BARNETT Abt 1875 - 1966 ........................ +Sarah Margaret MOLINE 1885 - 1970 ........................................... 5 Johnny Joseph BARNETT ........................................... 5 Thelma Irene BARNETT .......................................... 5 Judy Rae BARNETT ........................................... 5 Joan Faye BARNETT ........................................... 5 Sarah Margaret BARNETT 1933 - 1935 .............................. 4 Thomas August BARNETT 1915 - 1936 .................... 3 Benton "Rufus" BARNETT 1877 - 1878 .................... 3 Son BARNETT Abt 1879 - .................... 3 James Francis BARNETT 1880 - 1913 ........................ +Gertrude ogden Abt 1880 - .................... 3 Delilah May BARNETT 1887 - 1954 ........................ +Frank ogden Abt 1887 - .................... 3 Lula Belvidere BARNETT 1889 - 1974 ........................ +Harry CHILTON Abt 1889 - .................... 3 Mary Margaret Lovisa BARNETT 1892 - 1974 ........................ +Knute Hamlet RUSTAN Abt 1892 - ......... 2 Susan Rosella BARNETT 1850 - 1902 ............. +Jack LOGUE Abt 1850 Jack Childers in OKC

    1. Nancy BARNETT b abt 1787 TN
    2. Hi BARNETT researchers Since everyone is bringing up their BARNETTs and the name William keeps cropping up, I thought I throw my ancestress out there again go see if anyone recognizes her. Nancy BARNETT b abt 1787 TN m Gan JOHNS(T)ON b abt 1782 NC. They had at least one child (obviously or they wouldn't have been my ancestors :) ) named Mary JOHNSON b 9 Apr 1810 m John JOHNSON Jr in Jackson Co MO in 1833. I found Nancy and Gan in the 1850 Jackson Co MO census with the following people in their household: JOHNSON, Gan age 68 b NC , Nancy age 63 b TN , Nancy P. age 30 b TN , Barnet J age 21 b MO 4 slaves YOUNG, Nancy age 15 b MO LINVILLE, Granville age 40 b TN , Ann A age 28 b NC , John B. age 7 b NC , Washington age 3 b NC , Ann M age age 1 b NC Except for Gan and Nancy, I have no idea who any of these other people are. Mary and John JOHNSON Jr had a son they named William Barnett JOHNSON b Apr 1835 MO. I don't know if this name combination was just a coincidence or if he was named after some one (William wasn't a name used in the John JOHNSON family). Mary and John's other children were Gan, Mary, Martha, Elizabeth Ann (my gg grandmother) and Robert W. If anyone can provide any help with Nancy's family, I'd appreciate it! 1. Different Spellings/ Same Person
    2. This is in reply to Wayne Hatcher's question about 2 spellings for the same person. I haven't run across this yetin The Barnett line but in other lines I am researching. For example, my husband's mother's maiden name is Cushen, but her great grandfather spelled it Cushing. I think it may be because alot of people in those times couldn't read and write so if someone asked their name, they wouldn't be able to tell if it was spelled wrong. My husband's name is Boydston, but I have seen it spelled alot of ways for the same people. It may have to do with regions of the country also. Just my opinion. Irene Boydston Ringgold, GA

    1. Re: Re: WILLIAM BARNETT AND MARY HEASLETT
    2. There has to be at least a dozen or two William Barnetts of the same period and time in the NC/SC area almost in the same counties. Part of Mecklenburg Co, NC became Camden Dist which was divided into York, Chester and Lancaster Cos along the boundary between the 2 states. My William Barnett was the son of a William and they moved to the area in 1765, the younger William giving in his petition for a pension in early 1800 that he was born in Lancaster Co, PA along the banks of the Susquehanna River, in 1759 and that his father moved them to SC in about 1765. He had brothers Robert, Andrew, James and sisters Elizabeth Ann and Sarah Mary. My William and brother Andrew moved to Green Co,KY before 1800 and they helped build the courthouse in Greensburg, KY. Brother Robert moved to Tenn. as did sister Elizabeth. who had married James Kennedy and he died in SC in 1782 +or -.,These records are documented in Tenn records. Robert had several sons who became ministers for the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Sister Sarah m. Josiah Payne and only known child they had was a Sally who lived with Uncle William in Ky and married a Marshall. Back a year ago this month I sent about 15 articles over a period of several days to the Barnett list about all these families and they should be in the list Archives for last OCT. This might help all of you looking for the various Williams as well as other Barnetts that were in NC/SC. I have researched these folks for 45 years with a number of other descendants and have accumlulated a great deal of info. I have shared with others, especially that info that did not pertain directly to my line. there is a Barnett quarterly and somewhere I have the name of that person. Hope this helps some of you as think some of what I have read lately is very confused and undocumented. Sarah
