Edwin H. BARTON, Thomas J. LAWTON, and Martin Luther BARNETT all arrived in Piqua, Ohio in the early 1840s. They all came from New York. All three were business men who worked the Canal trade. BARTON open a grocery store of imports while LAWTON & BARNETT formed a partnership of exports of farm products. They owned and operated Canal boats. Of the three, I have only found records of BARTON operating a Canal business in Canastota, Madison County, New York in the 1830s. BARNETT was born in Brookport, Monroe County, New York, another Erie Canal town. LAWTON was born in Canada just across from Jefferson County, New York where he was raised. I have no birth place except New York for BARTON. There common connection is that all married women in the CROCKER family from Cazenovia, Madison County, New York. These three women are probably sisters. Angenett CROCKER married Edwin H. BARTON, Angeline E. CROCKER married Thomas J. LAWTON, and Sarah Elizabeth CROCKER married Martin Luther BARNETT. Im looking for the CROCKER father of these three woman; and any BARTON family business that could be connected to the Erie Canal 1825 to 1870. Any clues or connections are appreciated. Thanks, gary -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gary Barton [email protected] "Its never too late to have a happy childhood." Tom Robbins

My Great Grandmother was Clarissa (Clara) Barnett, born 1844, Ohio. She married Marenus Symonds 1863, Clay Co. Ill. According to census records her parents were born in Maryland. She is on the 1920 Census living in Kansas City Mo. with my grandparents John Birdette Symonds and my mother Agnes Symonds. She died in 1923 according to my mother in Kansas City Mo. but I have been unable to find a death certificate. Does anyone know of this family. Sorry but this is all I know about her. I am looking for my Great Great Grandmother MARY CURRY BARNETT, b. 27 Jul. 1785, NC....her parents were believed to be HUGH BARNETT Jr. and MARGARET HARRIS McFARLAND she married NOAH LILLEY abt.1807. They lived in Smith, Sumner, Randolph and Hardin Co.'s in Tenn, moving to Red River Co., Texas about 1837...Bob Lilley ........ [email protected]
My husband and I, each have a Mary Burnett ancestor. I'll probably find we are related again. We are 9th cousins on another line. If illegal, it is to late now after 48 years. His Mary Burnett was born ca 1765 in Va., died 1785 in S.C. Married ca 1786/87 to Joseph Black born 18 January 1763 in Dauphin Co. Penn. He died 7 Nov. 1843 in Columbus S.C. He and Mary Burnett Black had 9 children all born in Abbiville District S.C. He served as state legislator in Abbiville and in the American Revolution. My Mary Burnett born ca 1720 in N.C. She married Edward Forman born ca 1720 in Virginia. They had 12 children born in N.C. They migrated down to Natchez, MS then into Southwest LA. where their children married. Both died in LA. Would be happy to find anything more on our two Mary Burnetts. Thanks for any help. Dolly & Louis Nicol
