    3. Hello Virginia, Well, it seems like our lines are getting into a tangle of connected names, Oxford, Berryhill, Barnett, Spratt. Costen. One name leads to another and another that all twist around and find themselves bringing in the sheaves so to say. Well Since the names Berry etc are also connected to the Oxfords etc. I am glad I contacted you looking for the source of Berry Berry hill etc. I just today got about 60 pages of Barnett gen taking my Barnett's from 1066 (time of William the Conquer) in England to Scotland to Londonderry Ire to Pa in America 1731. From there to N C Meckleburg Co to York Co and other places in S C etc. The Spratt's ( Sprott) sometimes spelled, came with William Barnett's, ( parents and 3 sons ) , from Ire abt 1731 as the Thomas, was born on way here to Pa from Londonderry Ire. I will have to copy these pages as the Spratt's are there etc. I haven't had time only to glance but not digest it all yet. Now to find where the Oxford's come in with the Berryhill and Berry comes from that in N C. The Oxfords were in N C coming from England. and also in with the Catawba's as the Spratt's. Boy is this one for the books to figure out. I wonder what some of the other Oxford's are going to have to add to all this. Maybe there are some out there that can add to these mixup of names. I will have to get what you have and send it to Jim and Linda and get it all together to see what gives here. How about it cousin's, do any of you have connections to these names? I will need to know how many copies I'll need to make and all your addresses for a copy if you want to check this out. I will have to put into my Gen program as soon as possible so a chart can be printed out. I have from my William , son of Thomas and the Spratt and on down to add. Then my Barnett comes into the Samuel Lane line in Grayson, Co Tx. There are Oxford's in Tx also. I have what you want with the Spratt's i think Virginia. Glad your feeling better. I just got the patch and stitches out of my eyelid operation today. Will have the other eyelid done on 15th and by 2000 I should hopefully be able to drive my car once more. Send me your addresses. and lines with these names soon. Virginia, I live in western Wash. between Tacoma and Olympia. Maxine Baldwin P O Box 177, Roy Wa 98580 [email protected]

    3. Hello Lauri, I don't have an Agnes Nancy BARNETT JOHNS(T)ON in my files but I do have Barnetts who lived in Wilson Co., TN and Warren Co., TN in the 1790s and later. Also there are Barnetts living in Independence, Jackson Co., MO in 1830s. The family members I have are not JOHNS(T)ONS but have similarities in names. Mary Boyd's name caught my eye as my gg grandmother is Sarah Boyd BARNETT. There are also the names: Martha, Mary and Robert. I will gladly share any of the family groups with the dates and places I have. Peggy Wood Lewis

    3. Hello Buddy, Very happy to meet you. I had never heard the name Viers in our Family of surnames. It was your message that I think I saw or replied to that promted me to reply the way I did even tho it was a long message, I hope to get many more replies. I have put a number of messages in the Grayson Co Gen Web I think and not got much if any at all. I will reply to your meesage first as there are several discrepencies I would like to correct or verify. The truth is all I want whatever, it is with any proof there is. No I do not have the book you mention but if for sale since you say there is so much in it I sure would like a copy. Even a photo copy would be fine completely. I also Have the several blanks I haven't found dates etc. for. as in my message. I went through the Grayson Co cem listing and found some mistakes especialy in R S A Barnett's dates which are of typing or ready imfo wrong as they are of impossible nature. I sent a message to the person in charge about it and gave the correction but 2 months later it was not corrected. It is readily recognized by a person who would know them. I an going to have to leave my message for a while and be back. Have to put my freezer items back in freezer now. Well I am back but I'm going to go ahead and send this on to you. I will start putting one of the discrepancies documents in the letter and since I had surgery on one eyelid yesterday and have one eye to see with I may have to rest a bit before I get done. Will have to have other one done 15 Nov. I have Blephospasm, eyelids that don't want to close or open when needed or wanted . Can't drive for 2 half yrs now. Hope i can when all heals. 3. He shall be in my prayers. Muriel -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, November 09, 1999 8:57 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Harold Peters of Scott Co., VA. Hello list, I just recd a message from VA on Harold Peters. For those of you that never heard of Harold, let me fill you in. Harold Peters is one of the finest researcher I have had the pleasure of knowing. In my book, he is one of the greatest genealogist of Scott Co., VA. Harold spent many hours at the Scott Co., Court House researching for many and most of the time, didn't even charge a fee, he collected old family pictures of the first settlers of Scott Co. which you could order for twenty-five cents per picture. Ask him who so-and-so was and he would rattle it off the top of his head with dates etc. He lives in Gate City, VA. The first time (1997) I was at the Scott Co. Court house, I saw this little old man just going through records and kinda looking up at me at times. having a feeling he was someone special, I struck up a conversation with him, yep, he was a walking, talking library. He could tell you in many lines what states your family moved to and where to look for more information. He gave me my first true lead on one of my lines, turned out later he was indirectly related to me through another line. When I returned back to Fresno, CA a large package was waiting for me from Harold, copies of old pictures and sheets of family information. I sent him a check, but the check went uncashed, just a return note asking for all my family information, which I gladly sent along with old pictures I had collected over the years. His love for genealogy was greater then I have ever seen in anyone. Please remember him in you prayers. He's special. <<Harold is going into the hospital today. They found 2 spots on his lungs. Jean said he looked awful and had lost 30 pounds.>> (a cousin in Scott Co. had this message sent to me, Jean Pierson). Thank you Jean Brand Fresno, CA

    1. Agnes "Nancy" BARNETT b 1784 TN
    2. Hi BARNETT researchers I just learned that my gggg grandmother's name may have been different than the one I've been looking for (which could account for the reason I haven't gotten anywhere!). I got this info from a family group sheet filed with Yates Publishing Company: Gan JOHNS(T)ON m Agnes "Nancy" BARNETT in 1806 in Wilson Co TN. The fgs states he was b in 1781 in Mecklenberg County NC d in 1852 in Independence, Jackson County, MO and that she was b in 1784 (place not specified) and d in the 1860's in Independence, Jackson Co, MO. Twelve children are listed for this couple: Martha Boyd, Margaret Barnett, Mary (my ggg grandmother), Robert Barnett, Alexander Washington, Agnes Price, Rachel W., Ann Adeline, Elizabeth Jane, Hulda McSpadden, Pantha Weedin, and Barnett Jackson JOHNS(T)ON. If anyone has a BARNETT family that lived in Wilson County TN (or even McMinville, Warren County, TN cuz that's where some of the children were born) and had either a Nancy or Agnes Nancy BARNETT, please let me know! 'Twas the night before Christmas When all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said: "Too bad about the data for which you wrote Sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer, I'd spent my time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash! When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleight and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and 'ole Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And the roof was covered with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa ... KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come down the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet (I could wring his short neck!). Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you," Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement ... the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You have Plead." "I know what it's like to be a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library." "A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!" . --------------83C8E344EE9056C322B545EE--

    1. Harold Peters of Scott Co., VA.

    3. Hello Buddy, and all surnames, places, Thanks for the much needed reply and offer of help.. I hope you kept a copy of my meesage you saw for the needed imformation in it. I may duplicate some as I am looking in a book for several coorections. Most in Grayson Co Tx. The Marriage of William Anderson Barnett married 11 Oct. 1874, married and 2nd wife, Sarah Ann Hayes , (after Mary's S. Lane Barnett's death after birth of her 1st child, My granfather, John Robert Barnett b on 7 Oct. and some say abt 3 years later???. ) I just read a piece that says that says, The son WILLIAM ANDERSON BARNETT and Maybe Mary Lane lived for a while in Bacon Springs, Cooke Co Tx . This will give a period of time that lapsed of from 7 Oct. 1875 to sufficient time before birth of William's and Sarah Ann Haye's first child leaving then to have mar. abt , Sepr/ Oct 1878. (That would be about 3 yrs between death of Mary, bringing the story of 3 yrs after John's birth close to true.) Those yrs it was uncommon for a person, man to stay single with little Ch in home. abt 3 yrs. ??? James William Siebert Barnett , who was born 29 Sept. 1879 in Farmington ? Grayson Co. Tx. William and Sarah must have gon to Lark after Nora was born in Bacon Springs Cooke Co Tx., Dec 1884 but may have waited till spring due to weather. After their stay in Okl. ?? ,how long they must have left after Apr. 1888 or in 1889 directly to Arago, Coos Co, Or. I have several stories written abt their trip to Ore and think it must have been spring of 1889. As you see with this new imfo I will have to do more research. Gilliam, age 18, was absent without leave from his infantry division on several occasions. He was captured by Captain Smith in England Valley where he had a dugout in a bank under a Mulberry tree. Thomas was brought to the south side of what was known as "Big Ridge" near the McNutt farm close to the Tennessee-Virginia line. Captain Smith's horse bolted and ran back up to the top of the ridge in a chestnut grove, where the McNutt family is presently buried. Captain Smith and one of his men went after the horse. Captain Smith, it was said, had given his men explicit orders not to harm Thomas Gilliam. While up on the ridge, Captain Smith and his charge heard a shot where the men had been left. Captain Smith told his companion, "There....... they've gone and shot Tom Gilliam and it will take my life to pay for it." Thomas Gilliam, age 18, had been shot and his body thrown into the folks of young dogwood tree, which stood until cut down in the 1920's. The land is still owned by the Lyon family. The death of Thomas Gilliam is on record in Scott County, VA. Captain Smith was later shot and his murders never found. historical rumor says that his body was thrown into a cave in the sinks (a sort of marsh), and was never seen again. iii.
