    2. Dan Barnett
    3. I would like to get any information on Barnetts in Greenbrier County, in West Virginia from the 1700's back. I have family stories, but no direct information. The story is from an old Mason County, WV history book my uncle references. In 1797, sixteen Barnett boys and one girl left Greenbrier County and traveled up the old midland trail. Some settled in the Charleston and Coal Mouth (St Albans) areas on their way to Mason County. I would like to get any info from 1790's and back. I look forward to hearing from you all. Happy New Year and may blessings be yours this and every year. Dan Barnett

    3. Our Barnett file has one researcher named Linnaria Wheland - I've never been able to connect her personally to my file, but it might be the family you are looking for. I have her research on my FTM User site in my file. Also there are a lot of Taylor's connected to our Barnetts. Some of them lived in Ohio - Illinois - Pennsylvania - Michigan etc. I have my file on my User page in the Other Ancestors Book under the name Descendants of Philip Barnet I. Let me know if you find a connection. Beverly Barnett http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/a/r/Beverly-B-Barnett/index.html

    2. I should have added to my message about Barnett/Nevill, these church records which seem to indicate that the John Barnett who married Marran Gibbs came from Middlesex Co. VA and that the John Barnett of Orange County was probably the same John Barnett in the church records who was the son of John & Ann Barnett b. Dec 1704 in Middlesex Co. Note there were two Marran Gibbs, the first evidently dying before the second was born. I have in my files three different data that relates to the James Barnett b. in 1703 and the son of John Barnett. #1 James Barnett, son of John Barnett and Marran Gibbs. John d. 1750 in Orange Co. VA. James m. to Millie Nevill. James had a son James m. to Ann Rachel Clements. #2 James Barnett, son of John Barnett and Jeanette Power. James m. to Jane Johnson. #3 James barnett, son of John Barnett and Jeanette Power. James m. to Jane Miller. James d. 1787 in Amherst Co., VA. Can those who relate to or are researching the Lancaster Pennsylvania group of Barnetts comment on these seeming contradictions? Hayward Barnett

    1. James Barnett/ Millie Nevill
    2. The James Barnett who married Millie Nevill was the son of John Barnett and Marran Gibbs. This John Barnett died in Orange Co. VA in 1750 and left a will in which he left a parcel of land to son James. This land was in what became Culpeper County VA and in Oct 1774, James Barnett and Milly sold this land to Richard Thompson. 3. In looking through my files I noticed a post made by Brookcat in 1997 regarding the John Barnett/Jeanette Powers line. One of the children is James Barnett, b. 1703 in Londonderry Ireland and m. to Millie Neavell. >From some unknown source I have a James Barnett, son of John Barnett/Powers, baptized 23 May, 1703, as being m. to Jane Johnson. Their children were: Robert, William, Jane, Mary, and Alexander. Broocat's data gives a sone of James as being James, b. 1730 in Amherst Va. and m. to Jane Alexander. While this is not my line, I like to have accurate information in my files. Could someone clear us this conflicting information. It's possible that the James Barnett who m. Jane Johnson belongs somewhere else. Hayward Barnett

    1. Rufus Putnam Barnett
    2. I am new to this list, and am hoping to research my great grandfather's family. His name was Rufus Putnam Barnett, and was born in New York circa 1845. He married Susan W. Hutchinson, born in 1853 in Massachusetts. I don't have the names of his parents. On the 1900 census his mother is listed as being born in Canada. His father is listed as being born in Vermont. Rufus and Susan had sons Rae, Derby, Earl, and daughter Gladys, who all survived to adulthood, plus Bertie, Morton and Dickie, who died young. My grandfather was named Rae. He was born in 1882. The children were born and raised in California - I'm not sure when the family moved to California.
