    3. I have noticed some recent posts to the List that are off topic in the sense that they do not directly relate to the sharing of information or queries regarding the Barnett surname but are instead queries regarding computer use. As an unmoderated List, let's all cooperate by keeping our messages directed to the purpose of the list. For those needing help with computer queries may I suggest that you subscribe to the RootsWeb GENCMP-L The address is: [email protected] and subscribe in the message area. 3. Hi y'all, I'm seeking a software question for once. I use both Family Tree Maker version 7 and Family Origins..... I need to take my gedcom file and delete my entire Father's line.... a cousin on Mom's side has just became interested in genealogy... but she doesn't need my over 4000 Barnetts! Does anyone know a way? When I delete family in Family Origins... it just deletes the individual and his brothers/sisters .... it doesn't delete his grandparents on back... it just breaks the tie.... Any help would be appreciated! Katherine

    2. Gil Barnett
    3. I have traced my family back to Kent England. William Barnett (b. 1815) married to Mary Ann (maiden name unknown). I believe I have found them on the 1881 census in Milton, Kent, Eng. Most of their children were born in Tong, Kent, Eng. or in Sittingbourne, Kent, Eng. and moved to Canada around 1893. I am looking for information about William's and Mary's parents and siblings. I believe William was born in Bapchild, Kent, Eng. and Mary Ann in Tong, Kent, Eng. Any information will be helpful. 3. Dear Dereck: Athanacius was my 6th great grandfather - I am descended from his son Thomas as follows: John Barnett b abt 1712 VA m. Ann(?) Athanacius b 1749 Louisa, VA m. Jane Hutchins Thomas b 1772 Goochland, VA m2 Theodate Vernon William b 1804 Deep Creek, NC m Julianna Ballard Elwood D. b. 1849 Crawfordsville, IN m. Marilyn Ruth Barnes Kerry Lan b. 1957 Salem, OR m. James Kent Martin I will warn you - you will find many John Barnett's in VA at this time! >From what I have been able to ferret out, our John Barnett is NOT the John Barnett from Ireland who married Janette Powers. I also do not think he is the son of John Barnett and Katherine Farrar - though that is still a possibility in my mind. . . I trying to work that one out through land deeds and wills. The earlier solid record of John Barnett who is the father of Athanacius is from the Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting records of the Quakers. (see Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Meetings) Another excellent source for this line is from the book, "Descendents of Strangeman Hutchins" - Jane Hutchins is a daughter and John's second wife Elizabeth is also a daughter of Strangeman. A cousin (2nd or 3rd) has posted much of the descendents of John Barnett on the web at: <http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/m/a/h/Sheryl-J-Mahnke/index.html>. Sheri has done a nice job compiling some information passed down to her by her grandmother and other sources. There are some great documents on the BARNETT list archives - some old Barnett wills/deeds etc which have helped me start to sort some of this out. Janelle ([email protected]) who responded to your query has contributed a lot of old documents!! Others on that list are researching this line and trying to sort it out from the many John Barnetts in that area. I was able to do some research last summer in VA and actually found a document written by Athanacius Barnett, Sr. in 1780! I have a picture of it and want to but together a web page where I can post it. It was nice to actually see and hold something that he wrote! Let me know if you would like more information. 3. Jack - I have proof that the David Barnett married to Lucinda Dunehoo was NOT born in 1755. David born in 1755 was the grandfather of David married to Lucinda Dunehoo. David & Lucinda are in the S>Carolina census records with their children -- and one of their children, married, in one census. Sorry -- this is from memory so not exactly positive which ones. David b.1755 was given the wrong spouse in a DAR lioneage application. Again -- I have proof. He did have a son named John who was named by his brothers when they applied to settle David's estate in 183?. I am still trying to locate where HE disappeared to. David's son John would have been born in the late 1700's. I believe he may have moved to the eastern portion of Tennessee -- not really sure. Need to check some estate papers, if they exist, for Greenville CO., South Carolina. 2. In a message dated 01/23/2000 11:06:56 AM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << Looking for any information on the parents and/or siblings of Athanacius BARNETT. He was born 15 July 1749 in Henrico Co., Virginia and died 1808 in Indiana. He was married to a Jane HUTCHINS (1748-1833). >> According to the Henshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, p. 228, Athanatius Barnett was the son of John Barnett. Other children of John were Anna and Martha. His marriage is recorded as Dec 12, 1767 in the Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting. There are several entries on this same page for him and his children. I was interested in the response from John Ballard that said this John was born in Yorkshire. John, could you share your source with us? Janelle Swearingen, Tulsa, OK
