    1. [BARNETT] Re: Nothing really.

    3. Hi all,Sorry I must have hit the wrong key. Here's some Barnett information. ---------------------------------------Some notes regarding the Barnett family; about the Rev.William Barnett Said by earlier research: born 1643 , married 1666 at Fort James II, James Fort II, Proven by C&P records, a William Barnett was a headright in 1670 and was imported by persons on the Pamunkey River across the way from James Fort II. He and wife Ann had 12 children according to the input from Indiana. See below. __________________ William Barnett of James City Co., VA, became New Kent Co., VA; He is believed to be the father of the Wm Barnett (wife Elizabeth) who lived next to John Woodson North of the James River in 1725. Said Woodson moved south of the James River and lived adjacent to a John Bolling who died about 1772. C&Ps. Willis River area, see Parish records. Barnett's, this family were part of the Parish Leaders. Some removed into NC. Links into Ballow, Goolsby, Bolling. A large family, see the Montgomery Co., NC records. All known were Patriots. __________________ Study: John and William Barnett were in 1717 granted land in Henrico Co., VA. Whereas these were Barnett's and said so, a later record spelled it Barnes which is said Bar 'nes. In modern times some would read this Barns. Very same people. The Barret family (aka) were on Thomas Rolfe's property in Surry Co., VA. And according to the LDS records were involved with the 1677 Rolfe Estate feud. Several of his grandchildren went into NC. So far some evidence Wm, Henry James, Robert, and John had family members into NC. (old Granville, old Anson .... and Montgomery County, NC and near the Bolling family.) Do we have all 12 of Wm's children? Look for a Thomas bc 1690. I think others missing as well. Was there a Robert Barnett of this line? His daughters are perhaps the ones we are looking for. One married a White, one m. Bolling and on. Check Happer or Harper also. ______________ Flags: Wm Barnett was a head right in 1670. Imported on deeds which mention the Croshaw family on the Pamunkey River. This is across from James Fort II. See the C&Ps for this information. If this was his original entry then he married about 1670. But we can only guess at that. Perhaps the old timers are right and he married earlier by 1666. A Barrett family lived in Surry County, VA "on" the property which Thomas Rolfe had inherited. (land between the creeks) Barretts used the name Rolfe Barrett back earlier in England. Related to the Gookin family, as was Thomas Warren who also got property from Thomas Rolfe. Flags: The Berryville Bolling's attempted to put the Wm Barnett genealogy down. Remember this, the Berryville Bolling's have produced no original (primary) records what-so-ever. They can't even produce a single document with the said Jane Rolfe on it, not one. Worst Jane's said husband was a headright in 1674 into CCCo., VA (not 1660). The Robert Bolling input in French has been put down (call Todd Bolen). The Robert Bolling said born in 1646, into VA in 1660 was really a headright in 1674 by a Thomas Batt. (C&P) The real Robert Bolling was still in London in 1675 at which time his wife had a child. Leaves us no where. Who are these Bollings? The Chello Bollings lived in Yorkshire, England not London. Update, DNA is upholding the Barnett lines as linked to Thomas Rolfe. Same with the William Brown line and Bollings. _______________ More information: Source: Barnett Family, (Wilma). Rev. William Barnett, Huguenot minister came to Virginia 1662 m. 1664 Anna Rolfe Barnett b. 1648. THESE WERE HER FAMILY RECORDS. In addition: He is said to have arrived in America in 1662. He according to the the Autobiography of Mary A. Barnett and History of the Barnett Family of Johnston County (1923), p. 49; he married the daughter of Thomas Rolfe, named Anna. (12 children) Notes: A Wm Barr 'ett was a headright in this period of time. Perhaps again in 1670 when he re-entered as William Barnett. Perhaps Wm Barnett made a trip back to England for some purpose and was a head right when he returned to this county. The name as seen depends on the writer and what he thinks he heard or his spelling and worse, sounds were a mess. Was he already married when he was a headright? Perhaps he was as that can not be ruled out. Worse, perhaps people who write the word Barnett to paper make letters which look like r rather than n. Is this possible? ________________ More information: Source: (LDS Microfisch) (Original records) William Barr 'ett was involved with the 1677 court fight over the property of Thomas Rolfe in Surry Co., VA. (Barrett said Burnett in early C&P deed) ____________________ Our effort: We have linked according to records found the most likely connections as we can run down. As a matter of record, these links may or may not be correct and put here for additional study. If you see an error correct it. Clearly the dates given to us in some cases fail, often by a few years, but they were someones estimates and some may have been tampered with by hackers. In addition, I get the idea that the Berryville Bolling people are making this genealogy hard to work. Read their take in the PD Supplements. ____________________Happy hunting, KBP ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbara Blair <blair820@yahoo.com> To: Toni Garza <toni2balony@yahoo.com>, Ken Poole <randolph@rtmc.net>, Boyd <ouch@rtmc.net> Sent: Wed, 21 Mar 2018 17:43:07 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: Nothing really. So, I may have some other connections after all.Do you know who this Jesse Bowling is so many people seem to connect to, Ken?I did find out the Bolles family I am connected to is through the Starr family. The Bolles were in Connecticutt and a John Bolles m: Lydia Starr. My great grandfather, Wesley Muma married Mary Ann Starr, and I am sure these women are from the same Starr family. But I still am not sure who this Chief John Bolles is that fought in a battle in Texas and was killed. I have seen him on Cherokee genealogies, but not sure who he is.Barbara, I don't know much about Group 3. From what I can see they are a fairly small group aren't they? They were in Russell Co., VA, (now Wise Co., VA), and some in Wilkes Co., NC, (now Ashe Co., NC). Apparently some in Orange Co., NC/Granville Co., NC, but that was probably after 1700 and 50 more or less is that correct? That may make a difference as to whether this James Bolling is Group 3 or Group 5 who is Abe Lincoln's grandfather. And apparently Group 3 come from Maryland from what Ken says. I do have some info on Maryland Bollings. I will try to dig it out for you. Where are you from Barbara? Tell me a little about your family line if you can; so, I can spot information you might be interested in.I have been sick all winter this year. Just awful. I think I am finally over the pneumonia or bronchitis or whatever it was. The doctor gave me massive antibiotics, but it still did not completely clear it up. Only when my husband hooked up the mister and put food grade hydrogen peroxide in it, 1%, for me to breathe at night, did it really clear out my lungs and bronchioles. I really rely on alternative medicine a lot. I find it works for me. Hope I didn't embarrass you Ken, with my speech about not insulting one another. I don't like it when people disrespect the elderly, and you are elderly, more than even me. I am only 68. Not only that but you have also done very reliable research, and I don't like it when people disrespect you. I felt I had to say something. I have read things from this Stephen guy before, and he always seems very insulting. Who is the other one that is insulting? Is that Parris Teeter? I don't want to communicate with anyone like that.If I have any useful info, I will send it along. Sorry, I know I am not much help, but I am trying. I have a good lead if I can get a hold of the information to share with you.Your friend,Toni Muma-Garza

While the polar bear is mostly carnivorous, and the giant panda feeds almost entirely on bamboo, the remaining six species are omnivorous with varied diets. With the exception of courting individuals and mothers with their young, bears are typically solitary animals. They are generally diurnal, but may be active during the night (nocturnal) or twilight (crepuscular), particularly around humans. Bears possess an excellent sense of smell and, despite their heavy build and awkward gait, are adept runners, climbers, and swimmers. In autumn, some bear species forage large amounts of fermented fruits, which affects their behavior. Bears use shelters, such as caves and burrows, as their dens; most species occupy their dens during the winter for a long period (up to 100 days) of sleep similar to hib! ernation.Bears have been hunted since prehistoric times for their meat and fur. With their tremendous physical presence and charisma, they play a prominent role in the arts, mythology, and other cultural aspects of various human societies. In modern times, the bears' existence has been pressured through the encroachment on their habitats and the illegal trade of bears and bear parts, including the Asian bile bear market. The IUCN lists six bear species as vulnerable or endangered, and even least concern species, such as the brown bear, are at risk of extirpation in certain countries. The poaching and international trade of these most threatened populations are prohibited, but still ongoing.

These animals looked very different from today's bears, being small and raccoon-like in overall appearance, and diets perhaps more similar to that of a badger. Parictis does not appear in Eurasia and Africa until the Miocene. It is unclear whether late-Eocene ursids were also present in Eurasia, although faunal exchange across the Bering land bridge may have been possible during a major sea level low stand as early as the late Eocene (about 37 Mya) and continuing into the early Oligocene. European genera morphologically are very similar to Allocyon, and also the much younger American Kolponomos (about 18 Mya), are known from the Oligocene, including Amphicticeps and Amphicynodon. The raccoon-sized, dog-like Cephalogale is the oldest-kno! wn member of the subfamily Hemicyoninae, which first appeared during the middle Oligocene in Eurasia about 30 Mya ago. The subfamily also includes the younger genera Phoberocyon (20–15 Mya), and Plithocyon (15–7 Mya).A Cephalogale-like species gave rise to the genus Ursavus during the early Oligocene (30–28 Mya); this genus proliferated into many species in Asia and is ancestral to all living bears. Species of Ursavus subsequently entered North America, together with Amphicynodon and Cephalogale, during the early Miocene (21–18 Mya).Members of the living lineages of bears diverged from Ursavus between 15 and 20 Mya ago, likely via the species Ursavus elmensis. Based on genetic and morphological data, the Ailuropodinae (pandas) were the first to diverge from other living bears about 19 Mya ago, although no fossils of this group have been found before about 5 Mya.The New World short-faced bears (Tremarctinae) differentiated from Ursinae following a dispersal event int! o North America during the mid-Miocene (about 13 Mya). They invaded South America (~1 Ma) following formation of the Isthmus of Panama. Their earliest fossil representative is Plionarctos in North America (~ 10–2 Ma). This genus is probably the direct ancestor to the North American short-faced bears (genus Arctodus), the South American short-faced bears (Arctotherium), and the spectacled bears, Tremarctos, represented by both an extinct North American species (T. floridanus), and the lone surviving representative of the Tremarctinae, the South American spectacled bear (T. ornatus).Fossil of cave bear (Ursus spelaeus)The subfamily Ursinae experienced a dramatic proliferation of taxa about 5.3–4.5 Mya ago, coincident with major environmental changes; with the first members of the genus Ursus also appearing around this time. The sloth bear is a modern survivor of one of the earliest lineages to diverge during this radiation event (5.3 Mya); it took on its peculiar morpholo! gy, related to its diet of termites and ants, no later than by the earl! y Pleistocene. By 3–4 Mya ago, the species Ursus minimus appears in the fossil record of Europe; apart from its size, it was nearly identical to today's Asiatic black bear. It is likely ancestral to all bears within Ursinae, perhaps aside from the sloth bear. Two lineages evolved from U. minimus: the black bears (including the sun bear, the Asiatic black bear, and the American black bear); and the brown bears (which includes the polar bear). Modern brown bears evolved from U. minimus via Ursus etruscus, which itself is ancestral to both the extinct Pleistocene cave bear and today's brown and polar bears. Species of Ursinae have migrated repeatedly into North America from Eurasia as early as 4 Mya during the early Pliocene. The fossil record of bears is exceptionally good. Direct ancestor-descendent relationships between individual species are often fairly well established, with sufficient intermediate forms known to make the precise cut-off between an ancestral and its dau! ghter species subjective.Other extinct bear genera include Agriarctos, Indarctos, and Agriotherium (sometimes placed within hemicyonids).

Before the 20th century, the term was uncommon in English, and usually referred to the description or study of the useful arts. The term was often connected to technical education, as in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (chartered in 1861).The term "technology" rose to prominence in the 20th century in connection with the Second Industrial Revolution. The term's meanings changed in the early 20th century when American social scientists, beginning with Thorstein Veblen, translated ideas from the German concept of Technik into "technology". In German and other European languages, a distinction exists between technik and technologie that is absent in English, which usually translates both terms as "technology". By the 1930s, "technology" referred not only to the study of the industrial arts but to the industrial arts themselves. In 1937, the American sociologist Read Bain wrote that "tec! hnology includes all tools, machines, utensils, weapons, instruments, housing, clothing, communicating and transporting devices and the skills by which we produce and use them." Bain's definition remains common among scholars today, especially social scientists. But equally prominent is the definition of technology as applied science, especially among scientists and engineers, although most social scientists who study technology reject this definition. More recently, scholars have borrowed from European philosophers of "technique" to extend the meaning of technology to various forms of instrumental reason, as in Foucault's work on technologies of the self (techniques de soi).Dictionaries and scholars have offered a variety of definitions. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary offers a definition of the term: "the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area" and "a capability given by the practical application of knowledge". Ursula Franklin, in her 1989 "Real! World of Technology" lecture, gave another definition of the concept; it is "practice, the way we do things around here". The term is often used to imply a specific field of technology, or to refer to high technology or just consumer electronics, rather than technology as a whole. Bernard Stiegler, in Technics and Time, 1, defines technology in two ways: as "the pursuit of life by means other than life", and as "organized inorganic matter."
