A book entitled, "Kentucky's Bicentennial Family Register" printed 1977, shows a genealogy of the Wilson Ross Barnes, b. 1915 in Louisville, KY., residence, Seabrook, TX. Wilson states his father was Calvert Washington Barnes (1883-1962), his grandfather was Washington Ross Barnes (1835-1908), his gr. grandparents were James Barnes and Mildred Berry. James' father is listed as Samuel Barnes, b. 1777. Mildred's father is sown as Joseph Berry, b. 1780. Wilson went on to earn a PHD of Chemistry at Iowa State Univ. Note that Wilson Ross Barnes was a member of the Harris Co. Genealogical Soc. and the Filson Club. There has been much speculation about the parents of James Barnes, who m. Mildred Berry, some have stated [and printed!] that his parents were Elijah Barnes and Rachel Willcocks. Others have listed that his parents were Samuel Barnes and Lydia Willcoks. None have listed proof of their claims. Though more details would be required to show actual proof, the brief information shown on Wilson Ross Barnes lends further strength to the argument that James Barnes, b. ca. 1798, was the son of Samuel, not Elijah Barnes, a brother of Samuel, all of Nelson Co., KY. James Barnes and wife Mildred Berry are buried at Bowman Cemetery, near Cedar Creek Church, Nelson Co., KY. I've been there. In 2001, their large, red headstones were laying ontop of the ground. Afternoon light revealed what my rubbings could not, their names and dates. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo!
