Hello All, I am looking for any information on Jane BARNES born about 1723 possibly in Leicester, MA. Her parents may be Samuel and Martha BARNES. Jane married Captain William S. BLAIR on Feb. 21, 1745 at Leicester, MA. Capt. William and Jane BLAIR and family came to Colchester County, Nova Scotia in the spring of 1760. Captain William BLAIR, 1716/18 - 1791, first came to Nova Scotia on military duty in the year of 1758 to assist in subduing the French and the taking of Louisbourg. Capt. BLAIR served for three years under Colonel Winslow. After Louisbourg was captured, he visited the Cobequid Bay area where he was able to view the lands vacated by the Acadians in 1755. He returned to New England and was relieved from military duty. He came again to Nova Scotia and brought with him his wife,(married about 1740)Jane BARNES,born 1723 - Jan 8,1814,and family in the spring of 1760. His brother Francis came with him. They settled in the old French village of Dugoto, now called North River,Colchester County,Nova Scotia - near Truro. He is supposed to have settled on an old abandoned French Acadian farm on the interval of North and Salmon Rivers. William and Francis were Grantees of the township of Onslow but Francis sold his land for eight dollars and returned to Boston. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Cindy Donovan
