Have to answer this statement. The name of BARNES is said by some genealogists to have been spelled "Bainie" and may have taken its meaning from the Norse word bjorne, meaning warrior. Some researchers claim that the name is derived from the Scottish word baien, meaning a child. Variations frequently found in the spelling of the name are: Barn, Barne, Barron, Bern, Berne, Bairn, Bairne, Berns, Bernes, Bairns, Bairnes, Barneis, Barnes and about 1800 in the U. S. Barnes.
