I have found that BURNS is another change of spelling for the BARNS/BARNES name. Often people of 150 years ago or more could not read or write, and they either misspelled their own names, or a clerk, census taker, or church secretary wrote the name as they thought was spelled. I always search by all obvious variations of spellings of a name. Lynell Kirk Nelson agenfool@aol.com
Thanks for the suggestions. I had researched Barns as an alternate spelling for Barnes...perhaps need to go back further than I have though. I did not think of Burnes however...excellent idea!
