Does anyone have the (missing) connecting family section for this quandary? James BARNES, who was m. Keturah SHIPLEY., James, immigrated to this country from Essex County, England in 1676, settling in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Information has it that James father was named Richard. William BARNES of England was the father of son's David, Richard and William BARNES who immigrated to this county from England in 1758. In this country the three brothers: David purchased property and settled close to the above James and family (Anne Arundel and Baltimore County, Maryland, later Frederick which became Washington County, Maryland). Richard settled first in Pennsylvania, and then moved close to his brother David, who was established as above with the other BARNES', brother William settled in New York. David I's son, David II was the founder of Barnesville, Montgomery County, Maryland. David I's son, James was the founder of Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio. Eventually both families emigrated to Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio. The passing of family information from various members, states these families are connected, cousins???, hence, James and the three brothers BARNES are related.who are those missing connections? Caleb BARNES, Sr, m. Honour STEVENS, my 4th great-grandparents. Caleb is the son of James III, who died in Nelson County, KY, 1795. David BARNES of the above three brother's also had a son Caleb. Caleb was a name frequently used by both these families. Can anyone help? Thank you. Fran
A Barnes cousin recently participated in the Barnes Family DNA project. We had a perfect match with James Barnes' descendents That's the James of Maryland who was Keturah's husband. But we have a gap. The two oldest ancestors that we've identified were a William and a Frederick Barnes who we first find in Logan County/Warren County, KY about 1790. Appearing later with these Barnes were a Charles, James, and Buck Barnes. These two guys are definitely related to James of Maryland - or perhaps a brother. Based upon census records the two were born in the 1760s. Do any of the James/Ketura Barnes descendents have a Frederick and/or William who left Maryland/PA for parts unknown in the 1790s? I have a William Barnes that might be related. I have hit a brick wall not being able to find where exactly he came from. Here are the facts I know about him. Born in Maryland around 1781 was in Pennsylvania as early as 1827 Children's names were Aaron, Benjamin, Cyrus, William, Thomas, Joshua, Elizabeth, Amanda Jane and Matilda Most or all of the children were born in Pennsylvania and that is were he married. This could be the William you are looking for. He ended up in Indiana with no other family but his wife and children. I have thought he was from the family mentioned and have tried to research how but have not come up with any proof.
