Hello List - it has been awhile since I have posted - I am looking for my ggggrandfather John Barmes. He was born in GA abt 1800. He married Tabitha Mobley (d/o Jethro Mobley), 1823 in Jasper Co. GA. They then lived in Meriweather Co. GA. Tabitha died in 1830, leaving two small sons who her father took to raise. John Barnes traveled to TX and enlisted in the Mexican-TX Militia, as Pvt. May 18, 1836, giving his age as 35, and Jethro Mobley as Reference or next of kin. There was also a John Andrews, enlisting at the date date into into the same company, also giving Jethro Mobley as Reference or next of kin, being born in AL and age of 35. I am thinking that if this John Barnes lived thru the war, he would have been 50 or 51 on the 1850 census and may have been still in TX. Also there is a possibility that John Andrews might be living fairly close. Dot
